  • "Simmer Dim is fabulous."

It is very comfortable and has every cooking equipment you need. Its location is ideal for visits throughout Dumfries and Galloway and wherever you travel, it's lovely to return to Simmer Dim. Having stayed in many holiday cottages, this is one of the finest and I can recommend it to all.

  • "This was our second stay at Simmer Dim in twelve months."

We had fantastic weather and enjoyed using the outside (very private) patio area with ample tables and chairs. The views from here of the surrounding fields and hills is wonderful. A lovely feature of the cottage is the kitchen/diner/family room extension which is bright airy and again has great views of the countryside. A very enjoyable stay yet again.

  • "A lovely cottage, well maintained and Gavin very attentive to a couple of minor requests, and very helpful with local advice."

In some eyes the limited room in the ensuite/bathroom and limited headroom in main bedroom upstairs might be perceived as a problem, but to be honest you spend most of your time downstairs and the kitchen/conservatory and living room had plenty of room. The views from the upstairs bedroom were also terrific (and also from the kitchen). We loved it.

  • "Lovely little cottage, requested cot and high chair for my 1yr old grandson."

Owner provided with no issues at all. Enclosed garden with front gate that bolts shut, I would suggest caution when entering or leaving the drive way, its on a slight corner, unfortunately most other road users take the at speed. Hazzard lights on in plenty of time given them fair warning on entering the drive way. The cottage has everything you could ask for, Freeview television, fully fitted kitchen, ensuite bathroom, downstairs toilet and bath. High recommended if your looking for that peaceful, relaxing holiday getaways.

  • "The cottage was very well equipped and spotless."

Great location. They cottage is advertised for 6 people but at a maximum should only be 4 adults and 1 child as the third bedroom is a daybed with pull out under to make a double, but no space to get round. The main bedroom is great but in the eve’s so space getting in and out of bed is a problem. The en-suite is well designed for such a small space . I would just remove the shelf on the mirror as rinsing your mouth and washing your face is interesting. If you are tall the upstairs main bedroom may be a problem. Overall a lovely cottage, with some great walking on your doorstep.

  • "As the 2 single beds were set in thick wooden frames this limited space."

Not bad for children or young people to sleep in there but for my 93 year old dad there was not much room to maneuver and you could hit your legs on the frame as the mattress is set inside it . As there were 3 of us one could stand on the opposite side of the road to signal to the driver when it was safe to pull out of the drive. The bathrooms are small. Upstairs was fine for me, although the roof slops, I didn't find it cramped & my dad used this shower as it is easier to walk in than step over a bath. Downstairs the toilet was a bit cramped and basin small for my dad but it's what your use to. It's very difficult to see as there is a hedge at the front of the garden and the traffic travels quite fast along that road, would suggest a mirror to help. This is not a criticism but to be aware of these points for your party to enjoy. This house was in beautiful surroundings, peaceful and was lovely having the local cows as neighbours. Spotlessly clean with plenty of living space. Would go back again and so would my dad if it was just him in the bedroom, lovely.

The pictures do not do it justice. The accommodation has everything you need and was cosy and comfortable. Bathrooms were small but clean, light and well thought out. We didn't have a problem with the road as mentioned in other reviews, we just backed the car in to the drive and we're able to pull out easily each day - it wasn't that busy while we were there. Plenty of things to do in the area just allow a 15-20 minute drive. Was sad to leave. Would highly recommend a stay at Simmer Dim and would very happily return in the future.

No real issues to mention. Some slight Wi-Fi blind spots, and the bathrooms were cosy, particularly the downstairs loo. There was no washing up sponge or cloth, but we managed without. Otherwise it was excellent and if we’re in the area again we’d love to stay again.

The only tiny complaint is that the bed upstairs wasn't very comfortable but it wouldn't stop us returning would just use another bedroom. The drive ( again just a tiny complaint) is quite difficult to get out of as you can't see what's coming up the road but I just navigated my husband out, again wouldn't stop us returning. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy. We really appreciated Gavin calling by to give us tips on where to eat and visit during our stay. We would definitely love to return because the area was extremely beautiful despite Storm Eunice approaching! The only negative throughout was the entrance to the driveway was quite narrow and it would have been helpful to have some sort of mirror to be aware of traffic approaching from the right. However, this was only a small issue and did not spoil our stay. Thank you again for an amazing, restful week.

The property was extremely clean upon arrival and the owner stopped by to ensure we’d settled in. There was a good amount of information in the property including a very useful OS map. The views from the house are simply beautiful. There is some noise from the road but this is mainly farm traffic as it’s near a farm and didn’t bother us at all. The property itself is comfortable and well equipped although a few more drinking glasses would be handy. There is lots to see and do in the area, fabulous walking and the area is just stunning. Southerness itself has a caravan park and wasn’t really our thing but is a good 1.5 - 2 miles away so had no impact on our stay. I would certainly stay again and would recommend it. A fantastic and much needed holiday after the last 18 months!

The cottage was very comfortable and clean and we really did had a lovely stay. There are some beautiful beaches and walls close to the cottage by car to explore such as Powillimount, Rockcliffe and Kippford and a great day out for the kids is at Mabie farm park near Dumfries.

Thank you to Liz and Gavin for making our stay absolutely lovely. It was also nice to be able to book for the four nights rather than the usual week as a lot of cottages don't do short breaks. • "Photos don't give a true representation of this lovely cottage."

It is a wee gem of a holiday home and is far nicer in reality. It is a very sociable home with plenty of very comfortable relaxing areas; around the kitchen table enjoying a freshly cooked meal (using the very well stocked kitchen and excellent hob/oven), the conservatory playing games, chatting to the chefs or watching the sun go down, or the cosy living room watching tv/dvds, listening to music or warming up around the log burning fire. The fire was roaring all weekend (with plentifully supplied logs) warming us after a very windy news years eve walk along Southerness lighthouse beach (less than 5 minute drive) and a news years day walk along the beautiful sandy hills beach (a short 10 minute drive away). With 4 children, we were very comfortable and Gavin (the owner) was very accommodating by leaving us a high chair and travel cot. The children also very much enjoyed the delicious cookies and the adults enjoyed the quality chocolates left out. A personal welcome note and a quick visit on our first morning was appreciated too. Other points to mention also include the good wi-fi (coped very well with streaming sky sports, spotify and video calls), the very very comfortable beds, the constant hot water (and the excellent powerful en suite shower), the dishwasher (always a bonus when self catering) and the washing machine/tumble dryer (great when travelling with young kids). Overall, our entire group very much enjoyed staying in this delightful holiday and will hopefully return again one day.

The new property far exceeded our expectations the owners were very friendly and called round to introduce themselves the day after we arrived and gave us tips on the best beaches, this made them very approachable. The property was spacious and offered us every thing we needed. Everything is new and very clean, the kitchen is well equipped with the bonus of a washing machine and dryer. The bathrooms were compact but well equipped and the beds very comfortable. With the sun room and large sitting room there was plenty of room for the whole family and space to get that important quite time. We found that there was everything we needed to make the stay comfortable and relaxing all we had to supply was food and fun. On arrival Gavin and Liz had left a bountiful supply of tea, coffe and milk along with a fresh loaf of bread, cake and chocolate which is always a good start to your holiday after a long drive. The location is very quite and idylic, don't be put off by the road outside there is very little traffic and the house is set back and well insulated that you don't hear it. The cows are also extremely quiet which I have been told means they are very happy, my daughter loved cow spotting from the bedroom window. We would definitely return to Simmer Dim as the cottage and the area has so much to offer.
