  • "Amazing cottage."

Where to start with summing up this wonderful place. It has everything you could possibly need. Every room has interesting treasures. It is very warm and cosy and has such a relaxing atmosphere. Luxury touches with bedding and furnishing. The little courtyard is good for letting dogs out and there is a large grassy field where my Springers loved sniffing and racing around. All totally enclosed. The rest of the gardens are beautiful and guests are encouraged to use them. Will definitely book to go back as the location makes a large area of the Lake District accessible.

  • "Fell Cottage is simply perfect."

It is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. There is everything you would need for a stay away from home. Every room is comfortable and a joy to spend time in. Bed was so comfortable and as were the settees and chairs. So much so that I've ordered the same pillows to try and replicate the same sound sleep at.home ! We had a lovely night in the BBQ hut which was adorned beautifully to create a really magical feel. The views are captivating. We could see across to Dumfries and Galloway on a clear day and to sit and have coffee in the seating area outside close to the birds feeding was really relaxing. Finally, the owners are the most welcoming and considerate owners. The welcome pack was so nice on arrival and nothing was too much trouble. It was the nicest week we've had in The Lakes. Thank you so much

Wonderful touch of welcome goodies of chocolates, biscuits, flowers and bubbly. The cottage was absolutely immaculate. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable sofas and beds. They had thought of everything to cater for us and our dogs. Brilliantly equipped kitchen. Even enough larger entertaining platters and bowls for if friends and family join you for the day. Lovely hosts, very chatty and welcoming. We loved the pixi hut in the garden with the BBQ, which the owner kindly lit for us so it was ready to use on our return from a walk in the fells. The garden was perfect for our 2 spaniels, very secure and large enough for a good run around, chasing a ball. We loved the numerous sheltered seating areas around the garden to follow the sun around and look at the amazing views. It was so peaceful. We will definitely be staying here again.

We absolutely loved it! Stunning inside & out, the cottage is spotlessly clean, incredibly well equipped & so cosy. Perfect hosts, Janet & Jon, have thought of everything and the attention to detail is truly out of this world. With open outlook to rolling hills & fells in every direction, the tasteful furnishings & stylish adornments also reflect the Lakeland views gleaned from every window. As for the garden, what a paradise for plant lovers & birdwatchers alike! We could barely take our eyes away from the woodpeckers, finches & tits taking turns at the feeders every morning. The setting, 'Back of Skiddaw', is a tantalising area to explore and thankfully considerably less known than many of the crowded & more touristy spots further south. Among our favourite excursions: Buttermere & Wainwright's Haystacks; Caldbeck; Bassenthwaite Lake & Dodd; Whitehaven & St Bees at the coast; and all the gorgeous, virtually car-free rustic lanes roundabout Sandale & Ireby. Thanks so much to Janet & Jon for letting us share your idyll. We'll be back for sure!!

The garden is a credit to them, it's so well maintained considering how big it is!! You are encouraged to enjoy the house and garden at your leisure. Love how they are so child friendly, loads of toys, games etc, infact the house has everything you could possibly need including plenty cleaning materials ( hate when you are asked by the booking agents to leave properties clean but don't provide anything to do it with) More than dog friendly. Nothing negative at all to say about this place, amazing cottage, fantastic views and lovely owners, thanks Janet and Jon for a lovely stay we will be back x

Well kitted out for couples or families with children, no need to bring your kitchen sinks as this lovely cottage has everything you would need for ALL the family. The owners who lived next door were great, but at the same time never in your face. Cannot recommend this cottage enough. Being set on the quieter edge of the lakes it still affords easy access to all of the busier tourist spots and many quieter ones too. The nearby lakes distillery is well worth the visit.

Lounge and bedrooms are upstairs so you can take in the views of the garden and the hills. All the furnishings are very good quality comfortable and well thought out. You are given the use of all the areas in the gardens....a spectacular Scandinavian bbq hut at the top of the field with seating for about eight...a must if you are avid bbq fans! Janet and Jon are brilliant friendly hosts and will look after you well.....produce from the allotment, eggs from the seven chickens, and Jon will offer you any other items he Although we didn't have children with us we could see they are well catered for with lots of toys books etc and outside playthings too. There are friendly dogs and cats to meet who will come to see you every morning. Keswick is about half an hour away and Wigton four miles away for good butchers and some general grocers. About the location

IREBY

Bassenthwaite 5 miles; Keswick 12 miles.

Ireby nestles in the peaceful fells of the northern Lake District, in the beautiful area to the north of Keswick known as 'Back of Skiddaw'. Once a thriving market town, with the market cross believed to date back to 1200, Ireby is now a truly unspoilt, peaceful fell village. The peaks of Great Calva and Knott look down on the village and the nearby Aughertree Fell was the site of a Bronze Age farm and the remains of a pre-Roman road are still in evidence, a unique and most complete settlement from the Iron Age period. Nearby Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Trotters Farm, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall.
