Hexham 10 miles.
Surrounded by wonderful rolling fells and moorland, and claiming to be the ‘geographical centre’ of Great Britain, Allendale Town is a thriving little town with a large attractive market square bordered by pleasant stone houses and inns. Allendale itself has been described as ‘England’s Last Wilderness’ – a reference to the breathtaking unspoilt scenery for which the area is famous. It’s the perfect place for a walking or cycling holiday with both the coast-to-coast walk and cycleways passing nearby. Visitors can also explore the fascinating history of this former lead-mining area at Allenheads Heritage Centre.

Previous visitors' comments about Brookside:
The presentation of the cottage was exceptional. Every room was of a very high standard and smelt beautiful.
Mrs Sheville, Newcastle upon Tyne, February 2012
Very good sized rooms, excellently furnished and presented. The thoughtful owners provided wine, milk, Christmas cake and a decorated tree for our arrival with plenty of fuel for the log fire. The conservatory was excellent for relaxing and watching birds with the binoculars provided and bird book for reference. The cottage is in a good central position for walking and in a quiet village setting. We have no hesitation in recommending to others who want a relaxing time with the opportunity for walking.
Mr Spence, Hartlepool, December 2011
The cottage was much nicer than expected, even though I had looked at the photos online. The garden was stunning and there were lots of thoughtful touches. The little bottle of wine was much appreciated after driving a long way with two teenagers.
There was lots to see and do. We were lucky with the weather. Very good value for money.
Mrs Milburn, London, October 2011
Because the weather was atrocious, we were looking for a cottage which was a home from home in terms of comfort. Brookside certainly fulfilled our aspirations in this respect. It is a lovely cottage in a nice location. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
