Very well maintained gardens. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The hot tub was a great bonus, again very well maintained. Three couples in the lodge felt very spacious. I would highly recommend and hope to return. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

  • "Lovely stay and we would like to return."

The accommodation was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Kath was extremely helpful in the lead-up to our stay and the videos she sent were very helpful. The location was ideal once we found our bearings as it is quite tucked away in a lovely spot. Neddy Cut is slightly overlooked by two similar buildings but all are well separated so it still feels quite private. Slight damp smell at times but this was not a big issue, just an observation (possibly linked to warped wooden boards in the corner of living room, where we presumed the boiler to be). Very warm but this is a good thing when weather not so great. The boiler/ ventilation systems can be a little noisy at times for reasons we couldn’t quite figure out (in terms of when they came on). I was also pleased to note that during our stay no work was done on the adjacent building which is under construction. Would highly recommend.

  • "Thank you for an amazing holiday."

We loved the property - the hot tub was a favourite with the young kids and grandparents alike. The property was excellent in all regards and check in and check out was made efficient, clear and made easy. The location and local walks from the property were an added bonus. We would definitely recommend you (actually already have!) to others - many thanks for a very relaxing stay. NB: We stayed in Silly Knott not Neddy Cut (thanks for that change of property, it was a lovely location and useful to have the back garden).

Easily the best holiday home I have ever rented, so peaceful. Went Segway riding in nearby Cartmel and had some of the best sticky toffee pudding ever. Fabulous base for exploring the lakes and some great walks on your doorstep.

On our arrival to meet and greet us was not only the wonderful owners with their warm welcome and a bottle of Prosecco along with sweet treats which were gratefully received after a long drive. The standard and attention to detail is outstanding within the property. The location is idillic providing a peaceful tranquil place to stay. A truly hidden gem and we would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a 5* property and location so close to all of the Lakeland attractions. We will definitely be back next year.

  • "The property is outstanding for it's facilities, the general layout and the location."

Also the videos sent to us by the owner prior to our stay were super helpful. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the heating system - on the Sunday of our stay, the heating was on full and would not turn off at the thermostats, resulting with the overnight temperature being unbearably hot in the bedrooms. We had to try to sleep with the outside doors to the bedrooms open, and walking to the bathroom with bare feet was almost impossible due to the temperature of the floor. We contacted the owner who tried her best to resolve, suggesting we turned the heating off at the boiler and putting it back on when required as she could not get anyone to look at the boiler till the last day of our visit. Also work on a build next to our lodge was quite distracting. Overall would recommend the property if heating is fixed and build next to it is completed.

  • "The owners and all staff are friendly and helpful."

The location is private and at the same time in easy driving distance of all the Lakes have to offer. Cartmel is small but has great food and drink to offer. The Belted Galloways are oblivious to the cars going through their pasture and will move out of the way when they decide to, not when the driver wants them to; added to the fun and kept the pace down to a real holiday level. Some good walks and runs to be had starting from the accommodation.

  • "⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a wonderful place and wonderful people."

When my partner first shown me this place I nearly ruled it out due to having young children 1 and 4, I thought the out door space may have been an issue. I am so glad we decided to book as it was not an issue at all, was amazing and our children loved it, such a sense of space, playing freely on the grass, meeting the farm animals and even feeding the lambs which our daughter absolutely loved. They gave us lots of ideas for days out we could do in the area with the children which was great and we enjoyed some great family days. And when their day was done and fast asleep, we could spend our time relaxing in the hot-tub admiring the views and cozying up on the couch with a glass of wine and amazing cheese board from a shop they recommended in cartmel (so delicious). I would definitely recommend staying here the properties are immaculate, the people are lovely and the balance of time with the children and for ourselves was perfect. We will definitely be returning.

So peaceful and quiet. Facilities in the accommodation were truly 5 star, with added attention to details - like the decor, TV's in each room, one disabled friendly bathroom, everything one would need for a break away. Not to mention the hot tub tucked away behind dry stone walls! And the tasty fruit cake left as a welcome gift!

Kath who owns the property and Tim the manager were fantastic at helping to make sure every detail was perfect. The property is every bit as nice as the pictures on the website. The surrounding area and the estate were beautiful and tranquil. We would definitely return to Otter Tarn. The location is perfect for getting to Cartmel and Grange-Over-Sands. Everything was spotless and very well decorated. We went for the Christmas week and Kath even provided an aluminium roasting tin and foil. The lodge was decorated for Christmas with a real tree with lots of Christmas extras . It was very thoughtful of the owners. We enjoyed using the hot tub even though the weather was cold and frosty. I could sing lots more praises about this property and it is a little more expensive than some but the standard is much better than most lodges. Next time we have a family get together I well definitely book there.

About the location

BACKBARROW

Newby Bridge 1 mile; Bowness-on-Windermere 10 miles.

The small village of Backbarrow sits by the banks of the River Leven and the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The famous Haverthwaite Steam Railway runs close by the village between Haverthwaite and Lakeside. Enjoy magnificent views across Windermere and the surrounding fells, or visit the Aquarium of the Lakes, where the naturally themed habitats bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Bowness-on-Windermere provides a lovely day out, and the picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Set amidst the charm of the Lake District, close to the fringe of Windermere, this attractive village makes an inspiring choice from which to forage further into a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely gorse clad moors.
