Boat trips are available from Bowness to Ambleside, the Lakeside Aquarium and Beatrix Potter’s ‘Hill Top House’ at Sawrey. Orrest Head, where Alfred Wainwright was inspired to write his series of iconic guidebooks, is on the edge of the town and Grizedale Forest Park is nearby, with delightful walks, mountain biking and the ‘Go Ape’ adventure park. There are many National Trust properties in the area, as well as a variety of watersports for the more energetic. The cottage was brilliant and well set up with basic supplies of tea, coffee, milk and oil which meant we didn't have to rush out to buy these things. The owners were on hand to help and offer advise when asked but were not at all intrusive. There were plenty of walks from the cottage and we felt we were within easy reach of all the places we wanted to visit in the Lakes District. I would love to stay here again. There were no negatives at all. The booking process was easy and everything went smoothly

A star property. It is in a very good location and furnished and finished to a very high standard with some nice welcoming touches from the owner. I wouldn't hesitate returning for another stay. All in all a very pleasant place to holiday at.
