  • "Waterhead cottage was just perfect."

The accommodation is excellent with everything you could possibly need. High quality furnishings and super king size bed. Situated in a quiet area with easy access to a private lakeside. We have already booked for next year. Thank you for a relaxing stay x

  • "A really good location for a trip to the Lakes."

Access to the Lake and handy for the bus stop where you can hop on a bus and visit Ambleside, Windermere, Kendal, Langdale and Keswick. Would highly recommend.

  • "Disappointed that the cottage was so very close to a busy main road as listing mentions 5 acres of shared grounds."

Couldn’t find lids for 3 of 4 saucepans. Paper filter for extractor above hob hasn’t been replaced for ever. Velux window in bedroom leaks, needs maintenance or replacement. Bedside light bulbs inadequate, more like nightlights! Extractor fan in en suite very noisy. We enjoyed our holiday however, weather was largely kind. Owner not home, as far as we could see, in Larch Cottage. Living area warm and comfortable, plenty of hot water.

With a very warm and friendly welcome from the hosts, Nicole and John. It is a lovely cottage in a peaceful & tranquil setting. The perfect location for visiting all of windermere and the peak district. It is so beautiful that we are looking into booking it for our next year's holiday. We would definitely recommend Waterhead cottage.

  • "Really enjoyed our holiday."

Cottage and facilities were spot on. Jetty was used by my husband for fishing. Only downside was that the plug in the bath did not work. This was reported on the Monday. A new one was supplied late pm on the Wednesday. However once hot water was put in the bath, plug came out. Had to cut holiday short as due to health reasons have to be able to have a bath. However saying this, everything else was spot on.

We would love to return except my wife has a problem with climbing the stairs and there is not a handrail at the top of the stairs where it turns nor at the bottom of the stairs. The man staying next door had the same problem and struggled through the week going home early on Friday. Perhaps the owners could put in handrails where needed. Otherwise a great holiday .

My wife and I normally come to the Lakes to walk but this was not possible as I am recovering from illness. We were looking for a quiet, comfortable cottage that would "look after us" gor a week. Waterhead Cottage did exactly that. The added bonus of the beautiful location an the opportunity to sit by the lakeshore at the private jetty was wonderful.

  • "The cottage is in a gorgeous position, comfy, warm and everything you would need is there."

Position between Ambleside and Windemere is great especially as on the bus route. Price very reasonable. We had a fab honeymoon despite me having the flu! Only issue being the cleanliness as cobwebs everywhere, drainer had food caked on it, freezer had frozen food stuck in the icebox (possibly difficult to defrost after ever visitor). Worst being settee as when looking for a lost ear ring, moved settee cushions and there was the crumbs and detritus from goodness knows how many biscuits and crisps etc. Didn't impact our visit though as great little house/

  • "We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing week in the beautiful Lake District."

Waterhead Cottage was perfectly situated being a 2 minute walk from the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole and a 30 minute walk from Waterhead in Ambleside. There was space to park our car right outside the cottage. Waterhead cottage was very well equipped with everything we could have wanted. The cottage was clean and tidy, and the bed was extremely comfortable. In the evenings we sat on the terrace by the lawn enjoying a glass of wine, warmed by the glow from the chiminea. The private area by the lake was also a great place to sit and take in the panoramic views and we were able to launch our canoe directly from the private jetty. Gas barbecues were available to us both at the cottage and by the lakeside. We wish to say a big thank you to our hosts John and Nicole, and their lovely family. We would love to stay in your fabulous cottage again some day. Richard and Miriam.

Everything catered for. Lovely place with a little private mooring area right on the lake to sit out and relax and enjoy the beautiful view on a nice day. Also nice patio seating area with bbq at the house although it was Winter so we didn’t use it. The property is just off the main road out of Windermere into Ambleside and a nice walking area. Would book again. Our only comment would be that we felt the 9 am time having to vacate is a little early, especially when checkin is not before 3 pm and 10 am would have been more appreciated. Otherwise a lovely stay and would recommend,

  • "Listing didn't mention washing machine in the property."

Great that there is a vacuum cleaner, but it needs its filter cleaning. Also no toilet brush available. We had to ask for bath towels, which were promptly brought, but there were no bin liners for the kitchen, so we had to provide our own. The cottage is well equipped, but knives could be sharper. Although there is the facility to dock an iPod, nothing is available for those who use android. It would be good if the listing could mention what type of coffee pods will fit the machine. Overall we had a fabulous stay over Christmas and would thoroughly recommend. Just mentioning these things for improvement for future visitors.

Long black hairs everywhere. Inadequate door lock/latch to property. Loose window latch in bedroom. Broken toilet seat. Mouldy grout/sealant in bathroom. Loose shower head. Unhygienic toilet brush (Faeces remains from previous guests!). Supplied pots, pans cutlery weren’t completely clean (sticky frying pan, lipstick on drinks glasses etc). Furniture in lounge could be cleaned more regularly after recent covid problems as the arms on settees are showing signs of grease. On a whole, the cleaner or cleanliness at this property is clearly not being monitored prior to the arrival of guests who have spent a large amount of money for several days away celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary ( My wife and Me!)

The cottage was easy to find and in a perfect location between Ambleside and Windemere, both a short drive/bike ride away. The cottage itself has everything that you need, but the real highlight for us was the beautiful gardens and the private lake access. Unfortunately our son will be too old to book again next time we visit the Lakes, but if its just me & my partner we would definitely go back - I cant recommend it enough.
