Location: Flookburgh

Cartmel 2 miles; Grange-over-Sands 3 miles.

A superb base to explore this interesting and beautiful area, the historic village of Flookburgh is set near the shores of Morecambe Bay on the outskirts of the magnificent Lake District. Named after the locally caught Fluke fish, it was once a popular resting point for travellers crossing the sands from Lancaster and still provides a home for cockle and shrimp fishers. Facilities in the village include two pubs, a grocery, a chemist, butchers, a post office and two food outlets. The Cumbrian Coastal path passes nearby and a short walk away from the village is delightful countryside and views of the Bay and the Coniston mountain range. A few minutes’ drive or a pleasant off road walk leads to historic Cartmel, home of Sticky Toffee Pudding, with its beautiful Priory, popular race course, antique and gift shops, pubs and restaurants; including the Michelin Star rated L’Enclume. Just over a mile away you will find the beautiful house and gardens of Holker Hall and also nearby is the Edwardian resort of Grange, offering a range of hotels, restaurants, shops, a traffic free promenade, ornamental gardens and golf courses.

Previous visitors' comments about Dolphin Cottage:

The house was amazing with a beautiful kitchen. Great area, lovely little shops and pubs.
Ms Fuller, Manchester, November 2012

The property was large enough for three generations to holiday together without getting under each others feet. Plenty of space in all the rooms and very clean and tidy. Lots of games to play in the evenings and the WIFI connection was brilliant for my teenage daughter to do her homework.
Mrs Silvester, Bordon, October 2011

The location of the house was perfect for accessing the south lakes and the surrounding areas.
