  • "Beautiful cottage in a great location, ideal for walking up Helvellyn or the Ullswater way via the steemer."

Recommend the Travellers Rest for friendly pub food. The real fire was great on cold nights, remember to take wood and firelighters with you. The beds were comfortable and the pressure of the shower was great, only down side were the steep stairs after a long walk, but the bath soon relieved weary legs.looking forward to our next visit Lovely gesture with the mince pies and prosseco for celebrating new year.

Obviously we are satisfied with the property as we have returned and may do so again although as pensioners we find the stairs rather steep. The cottage is clean and comfortable and everything seems to work fine. We noticed one cup has a large crack and needs replacing - we just did not use it. Whilst the cottage is a comfortable base to return to it does not have extensive views, only glimpses of the fell tops, so might not suit someone who likes to remain at the property in the daytime. Also parking is tight and the owner of a large vehicle might have some issues. Overall we would recommend this property.

  • "Cottage was generally good, well equipped and clean."

Just a couple of niggles, the oven on the fan setting would not go above 150C, which made cooking a bit difficult. Smell of oil from the boiler was really over powering at times. Smell of damp in the bathroom and we put the heating on for half an hour one night to dry towels but the radiator in the bathroom did not work.

  • "We stayed at Millcroft in late June after travelling up from London for a family wedding."

The cottage has a very homely and welcoming feel to it. It was equipped with everything we needed and also had a lovely garden to sit and relax in. The hosts have left folders with instructions and information regarding the cottage and they also have leaflets and books for tourists on places to visit and the various walks to do. There is parking to the rear of the property which is an added bonus. This is accessed by a turning after the third stone cottage. It is only a small turning but leads you to three bays of which the middle one belongs to Millcroft. Access to the property is also from the rear. I would stress that the steps in the garden are quite steep and someone less able should be cautious. Glenridding is a great place to explore the lakes and is a hidden gem. If we return to the area we would happily book this cottage again.

  • "We had such a lovely time at Millcroft."

The cottage was clean and had everything we needed for a weeklong stay. The garden was nicely kept and perfect for sitting out in the sunny weather (we were very lucky all week), with a handy parking spot and shed. The area itself is stunning! We had a wedding at the nearby hotel, right on Ullswater lake which was very convenient. After that we spent the rest of the week canoeing, kayaking and walking around the lake and surrounding hills. I cannot stress enough how amazing Glenridding is for a holiday in the lakes; a couple of shops and pubs, plenty of trails to explore and within reach of the rest of the lakes by car. We go on a UK break every year and this has been our favourite by far. We would absolutely recommend Millcroft, as well as the guided kayak tour on Ullswater, the Travellers Rest pub just up the road for food and drinks, and if you’re feeling fancy, the Inn on the Lake for drinks on the terrace with a lakeside view. Beautiful :)

  • "2 Mill Croft is a very comfortable home from home with plenty of space for 4 adults and all the gear needed for a wet week in the Lakes."

Plenty of space to unpack and then dry boots, coats etc. Even the washer came in handy after a muddy day! The kitchen is well equipped and cooking was a pleasure, especially as the new owners of the Mini Mart stock everything you could possibly need to make tasty meals. Chilli lovers especially should visit. Great walks from the door, stunning views and a range of books with walks for all levels. We didn't play any of the games, but those who want in house entertainment will be well sorted. A pleasant small garden at the rear will be lovely in the summer but was only admired from the window. Highly recommended, we plan to go back.

  • "Millcroft was generally well-appointed and comfortable."

We enjoyed our stay - thank you; though it didn't quite feel like it offered the value for money to which we are accustomed - thus the 4/5, not 5/5 (e.g. as of course one takes one's luck with weather in the Lake District, and on our weekend, the weather was poor). A couple of specific minor improvements would be: - First, for some new frying pans in the kitchen, as the non-stick coating was no longer non-stick on the larger ones; and - Second, for a quieter/shorter-running extraction fan in the bathroom. It would also have been useful to know that the parking was at the back of the property, just to save one of us having to scout for this on arriving (in the cold, dark and rain) on the Friday evening. We had understood the key safe to be at the rear entrance, but we didn't appreciate the parking was until scouting round to that. We did remember to take our own towels, as was indicated in the pre-visit communications - though that they were required seemed a little odd, given bedding etc. was provided? (I wonder at the reasoning for that.) Everything else was fine - e.g. the heating/lighting was controllable, the television and set-top box worked, the furniture was in reasonable condition, and the beds and bedding were very comfortable, which to us is very important; thank you.

  • "Although the cottage was as advertised, we were disappointed by the standard of the fittings and particularly the seating in the living room."

The dilapidated sofas (which were minus the cushions for COVID reasons, we get that) were so uncomfortable we finished up sitting on dining chairs - which have also seen better days - most evenings. Providing an open fire yet not even a starter pack of logs, matches and firefighters seems a bit mean! All in all it was quite a depressing little cottage and we were glad to be able to be out of it most days. Good points were comfy beds and plenty of hot water, a well equipped kitchen. I won’t recommend Sykes as we had zero communication from you after lockdown was called part way through out stay. We love the lakes returning many times, but we won’t stay here again, for the money it was definitely not worth it!

It's really well equipped, cosy and comfortable, lovely to have an open fire after walking in the snow and to find the heating on when we arrived. The beds are also very comfortable. It was helpful to have a few basics there, in case people hadn't brought them, such as washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, loo rolls etc. We noticed others had commented on it not being obvious that towels are not included, but I think all sites now have that information on them. One suggestion would be, that as the shower is over the bath, a non-slip mat for the bath would be good. We brought our own but most people wouldn't think to.
