The attractive, unspoilt rural village of Great Strickland is ideally placed for exploring the Lake District and Eden Valley. The village offers a pub, which serves good food and the nearby market town of Penrith offers a good selection of shops and restaurants, a cinema and swimming baths. The Lakeland Bird of Prey Centre is only 2 miles away and well worth a visit, or why not cruise on one of Ullswater's motor yachts, which leave hourly from Pooley Bridge, only 5 miles away? The Rheged Discovery Centre in Penrith is the “largest grass covered building in the country” or you might like to visit Dalemain Historic House featured in a television production of Jane Eyre. Close by is Eden Ostrich World, a great day out for children, where you will also find rare farm animals, shire horses and many other attractions - including tea in a farmhouse! For those who love the outdoors, the well known "Coast to Coast" walk runs close to Great Strickland and walks abound in the nearby National Park.
