Location: Warden Near Hexham

Hexham 3 miles.

The rural village of Warden is situated in the heart of the Tyne Valley countryside. It’s a tranquil and traditional place, whose name was taken from the Old English ‘weard dun’ meaning ‘watch hill’ and was originally the site of an Iron Age Hill Fort. Today it is home to an excellent pub/restaurant, The Boatside Inn. It is 3 miles from Hexham, the region’s main market town - a bustling place, full of antique shops and popular with tourists visiting nearby Hadrian’s Wall. Beautiful old Hexham Abbey dates back to the 7th Century and has a superb Saxon crypt, while shoppers flock to colourful stalls in The Shambles in the Market Place on Tuesdays. In the other direction lies Hadrian’s Wall, while further afield are Kielder Water, Alnwick Castle and Garden, and the many unspoilt golden sandy beaches, dunes, quaint fishing villages and historic castles of Northumberland’s Heritage coastline.

Previous visitors' comments about North Tyne Cottage:

Really enjoyed this cottage - very comfortable with ample parking space and of course very handy for the nearby Boat Inn pub. The cottage is very handy for some very nice walks and even within walking distance to Hexham with all its shops, facilities, parks and items of historical interest. We even laughed at the proximity of the railway line to the cottage and the master bedroom - can't even put that down as a dislike. Overall, we had an excellent week in this cottage.
Mr Bassett, Blackpool, May 2010

Very central for places to visit. Friendly welcoming staff in pub who were helpful
Mrs Treharne, Plymouth, October 2009

Mrs Masshedar, Durham, August 2009

It was easy to reach most places. We had a couple of meals at the 'Boatside Inn', which were very good. The owners were very helpful.
