  • "Absolutely fantastic stay at Oakdene country house!"

The views are nothing short of amazing, herds of sheep just metres from your window in the surrounding fields. The house itself is out of this world, the space, facilities And decor is unmatched. We were A party of 18 adults and 6 children and it was more than we could have imagined. The day after coming home we booked up again for next year! Chris was always thorough in making sure we knew he was on hand for any issues or questions, and he certainly was! I don’t think we will find anywhere that matches this property and can’t wait to be back!

  • "Absolutely fantastic - both inside and outside the house."

We had everything we needed and all was clean and presented perfectly. Great communication from Chris in the run up to our stay and throughout. Oakdene's setting in the countryside, the quietness and solitude (apart from some sheep), was completely what we were looking for - though we could, and did, walk into Sedbergh a few times. Very highly recommended

  • "Our group of 17 had a fantastic stay at Oakdene and would thoroughly recommend to other large groups looking to hire a holiday home."

Chris the owner had been very helpful and accommodating with our questions and requests prior to arrival and he was also there to meet us on check in to give us a tour and show us how the appliances worked. All 11 bedrooms were very comfortable and well appointed to a very high standard and the bathrooms were all very modern with great showers. The kitchen was fantastic - plenty of oven and hob space and very well equipped to be able to cook for such a large group. There was also ample fridge and freezer space. The kitchen had been well designed and thought out. Our group also enjoyed having the two hot tubs and had lots of fun in the games room. The snooker table was a great bonus. We had a minor problem with one hot tub and Chris was available to come over and resolve it very quickly. Overall this was a fantastic home for our group - we had a lovely week and would love to return in the future. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this holiday home - thanks Chris for a great week!

The beds were all extremely comfortable and the house is full of lots of thoughtful touches such as blankets in the lounges. Every window has an amazing view out of it and the house is next door to the amazing Far Fields Mill. Can’t recommend the property highly enough - our group of 18 friends had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back!

Every little detail, the decor, the way the rooms are set out, the equipment and crockery/cutlery in the kitchen, the bedrooms, the lighting, everything has been so well thought out. It is just gorgeous. We stayed for 3 nights, 23 ladies, and we had a truly wonderful time! We had a personal chef, he had no issues with the kitchen, and this was just brilliant! The hot tubs are massive, the games room downstairs is just lovely and Chris (and Sally) the owners goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is the best. Every little detail is covered! We all loved every minute and we have booked for next year. I would absolutely recommend staying in this house!

  • "The house was wonderful, every detail had been thought of and Chris & Sally were on hand throughout our stay."

We really appreciated all the little touches. The kitchen has all appliances, the hot tubs were clean and well looked after, bedrooms comfortable and the location itself is beautiful. We had a lovely Christmas and hope to return to Oakdene one day. Thanks so much! The only minor complaint we had is nothing to do with the house or hosts, it's that Sykes themselves are a really difficult company to get a hold of on the phone! We had numerous queries before our stay and couldn't get in touch via an avenues which we found really frustrating. Again, nothing to do with Chris/Sally/the house itself, just feedback about Sykes as a company.

There are several large communal rooms, and a patio with BBQ. The property owner was extremely helpful, and the setting is fantastic, with views straight onto the hills (we spotted over 50 bird species, including hen harriers and a kingfisher on the pond). The nearby mill and cafe are a great extra resource. The only downside is that the shortest walking route to Sedbergh is via a dangerously fast road with no pavement; the owner sensibly advised us to walk to town using a better route via the mill and quiet river footpath, but this takes about twice as long

I arranged a surprise 40th get together with friends for my partner and he absolutely loved it. The house is huge, stunning and spotless, most beds were superking and so comfy. The views were incredible and you could relax in the hotubs, looking out at the beautiful surroundings. There were so many gorgeous little lambs in the fields around us as well as rabbits, so next time I'll definitely have to bring the kids. They would have loved it!! There is a lovely pub we visited just a short walk away, where we had a lovely meal. Chris and Sally (the owners) are both so lovely and couldn't be more helpful, even before we got there they were on hand to answer any questions, Chris met us there on arrival and ran through everything with us and then they both came to say goodbye at the end of our stay. Their little girl is just adorable too. This has honestly been the best weekend away we've ever had and we will definitely be back, I honestly can't rate Chris and Sally enough or their beautiful country house. If I could give more than 5 stars I definitely would. Thank you both so much for everything and we will see you again soon I'm sure. Cat, Steve and the rest of the group.

We met up with family to spend Christmas and New Year at Oakdene. It was brilliant. This elegant house is very well laid out with plenty of space to gather and enough privacy and quiet when required. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully furnished (and was tastefully decorated for Christmas too). The owners are lovely people who are on hand to help but take care not to intrude. The position, just on the outskirts of Sedbergh is perfect. We had peace, quiet and glorious views yet also a quick walk via a safe footpath across fields into town, and up onto the hills. Sedbergh must be one of the friendliest towns in England. The pubs, butcher, bakery and grocery shops are all excellent with chatty and welcoming staff. On top of this, there are numerous bookshops and, just behind the house, there is a fascinating art gallery and museum. Rain or shine, there is plenty to do. We thoroughly recommend Oakdene. If you book it, you won’t be disappointed.

Oakdene is a wonderful place to spend a holiday, a beautiful home refurbished to a very high standard with lots of lovely features. The rooms are all spacious and comfortable and there is plenty of space to absorb multi generation families. The ground floor bedrooms are perfect for the less mobile and all the tastefully designed rooms are en-suite with comfy beds and linens. The well stocked kitchen is huge and is a perfect space for entertaining especially on a nice day when you can use the outdoor furniture. We had the added benefit of the magical Christmas decorations which added the finishing touch to a memorable stay. The views are spectacular and just a short distance away the pretty little village centre has some great restaurants and cafes and shops with local produce. Thank you Chris and Sally we hope to see you again in the future.

) What a fantastic place! We came as our extended family for a week to celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. Oakdene was perfect for us all despite the huge age range - 4 and 9 to 84 and 87! Oakdene is a fabulous house, beautifully fitted out. Very tastefully decorated and super comfortable sofas and beds. Not only did the bedrooms work brilliantly for us - and they are all of an equally high standard which was great so no-one felt they were being short changed, and three bedrooms were on the ground floor which my father appreciated - but the living space was also excellent which is not always the case. We could all 21 of us eat comfortably together. We could also all hang out in the lounge together - or spread out into the morning room, cinema room, snooker room, kitchen dining room or the various outdoor spaces, the hot tubs being a favourite!! And the setting is just stunning! What amazing views from the house and grounds, sunsets from the lounge and dining room and patio and on a clear night the starry sky was unlike anything we have seen for some time! Fairfield Mill just 100 yards away is a bonus with tea room and 3 floors of beautiful arts and crafts and artist studios. And of course the Yorkshire Dales are simply beautiful, as is the Lake District close by. It was hard to leave at the end of the week! All 21 of us would have no hesitation in highly recommending Oakdene Country House. And as hosts, Chris and Sally were exceptionally friendly and helpful, promptly dealing with any requests or issues. Thank you so much! It was so wonderful!!

  • "What a gem!"

This was a superb property for 10 adults and 10 children for a week's family holiday. it's possibly the best equipped self-catering accommodation we've ever had. It has been beautifully decorated and sympathetically upgraded and tastefully furnished, and is extremely comfortable. The kitchen is fantastic, with two quite astonishing induction hobs. Cooking for 20 was a breeze (we tended to do 10 kids first and 10 adults a bit later), and there is ample fridge and freezer space. The two full sized wine coolers can be used for all wine, beer and soft drinks freeing up fridge space for groceries. The bedrooms are all comfortable with lovely en suite bathrooms. Add in a full-sized snooker table, tabel football, two high tech hot tubs, and a TV room with an up-to-date 4K 65 inch TV and you'll barely every want to go out! However when you do, the surrounding countryside is well worth it and the nearby mill's tearoom serves great cakes. The views across fields to the hills are truly lovely. Improvements? Tricky! The only thing we thought we needed and didn't have was an icecream scoop. Some outdoor games equipment for children would add to the enjoyment perhaps. A big thank you to Chris and Sally (for whom nothing was too much trouble) for providing such a fantastic property. We hope to return next year, as it's hard to imagine finding somewhere better for a family like ours.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th-century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which have existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. From this line, you can experience the famous Ribblehead Viaduct. Hop off at Ribblehead station, and soak up the magnificent surrounding countryside of Ribblesdale the ideal location for fell walking, with the famous Three Yorkshire Peaks Walk; Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough offering some of the most challenging walks in the country. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes it an ideal all-year-round holiday destination.
