New Hutton is a small traditional Cumbrian hamlet set in beautiful countryside, ideally placed for exploring Southern Lakeland and the Yorkshire Dales. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal-born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Hollins Farm Barn was first class. It was warm, comfortable and clean. The bed was really comfy and things like the bedding and towels were of good quality. The owners were helpful and friendly whilst respecting our privacy also. They left us toiletry's, salt, tea bags and oil etc which is something many don't supply. It was a very peaceful location. Well worth a visit!

I liked the way the barn had been done-up so much that I didn't mind the awful weather we had during our visit. As a holiday home it was truly excellent. You don't mind staying in when the house is so nice! In particular I was impressed at the thought that had gone into things like even supplying emergency torches! There was a wide selection of books/DVDs/boardgames too.

This was a wonderful cottage, tastefully converted and furnished, very well-equipped and in a beautiful location. Our hosts were ideal hosts; friendly, thoughtful and helpful but not overpowering. One of the best cottages we have ever had the pleasure to stay in - and we've been on the self-catering cottage circuit for many years!
