Something of a sleepy backwater, the village boasts a traditional old pub, a petrol station which serves as the village shop and a scattering of dwellings and farmsteads built from the local Brockram stone. The traditional market town of Kirkby Stephen, once home to bobbin mills today hosts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs for every taste and budget. A delightful stone built semi detached cottage in the centre of the pretty rural village of Nateby, a mile from the market town of Kirkby Stephen. This Cumbria cottage provides warm, cosy accommodation with an unusual 'upside-down' layout, with the sitting room, kitchen and one bedroom on the first floor, and the shower room and second bedroom on the ground floor. In a lovely rural setting, the cottage is just a stone's throw from the centre of the village, with its quaint old houses and traditional local inn. Nearby Kirkby Stephen offers a wide array of shops, restaurants and pubs, while the Settle to Carlisle railway line, the Howgill Fells, and the majestic Pendragon Castle - of Arthurian Legend - are all close by. A lovely Nateby cottage in a wonderful location, with both the Lake District and Dales National Parks within easy reach.

The cottage was spotless and very nicely decorated. It was warm and cosy and had a "home from home" feel about it. The location was excellent with beautiful countryside and local walks. The owners lived next door and were friendly and helpful and even put a pint of milk in the fridge so we could have a cup of tea when we arrived. I have already recommended the cottage to a friend and I would not hesitate to book it again in the future.
