Hawes 4 miles; Bainbridge 2 miles.
The picturesque Wensleydale village of Askrigg is situated in truly beautiful countryside and is better known to millions as Darrowby — the village portrayed in TV’s James Herriot’s “All Creatures Great and Small”. It makes an excellent holiday location for walkers, offering a great base from which to explore both Wensleydale and Swaledale, with beauty spots in the area including Aysgarth Falls, Semerwater, castles at both Bolton and Middleham and of course, Hardraw Force - England’s highest single drop waterfall at 99ft! There are also lots of interesting market towns and villages to visit, including Hawes, Leyburn and Bainbridge, to name but a few.

Previous visitors' comments about West Shaw Cote Cottage:
The location of the cottage was remote from the road and any traffic noise. The isolation was great. Views were fantastic!
Mr Brown, Leamington Spa, November 2011
It was the same as the pictures! So I could sit on the seat and enjoy the fabulous view. We were so snug and had everything we needed. Also, the proximity to Hawes for shopping. The owners were friendly, happy to answer questions, but left us alone. Watching the life of the farm going on round us was my bonus.
Mrs Goodwin, Royston, September 2011
The cottage had everything we needed and more, and the owners were very welcoming and helpful. The views from the cottage were beautiful and it made a perfect base for travelling around Yorkshire and Cumbria.
Mrs Mann, Crediton, August 2011
It was like coming home. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and gave good information for places to visit, as the weather was wet. I have recommended this cottage to my friends, as the views were spectacular and the location is perfect for walking or touring the Yorkshire Dales.
