  • "Excellent location but several issues."

Not very clean. Shower screen didn't fit and water leaked out everywhere. One of the second bedroom beds was more of a put-u-up bed with no headboard to keep the pillows in place. The internal knob on the bathroom door comes off. Knife drawer didn't open properly because of fake drawer in front of sink. Kitchen blind didn't work properly and fell down while trying to open it. Not enough room on the kitchen surface to put 4 dinner plates - microwave needs to go on brackets on the wall. Washing machine advertised didn't work. Some of these issues have been noted in the visitor book on several occasions but obviously have not been addressed.

  • "We’ve just spent a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage."

It has everything you really need but a freezer would be a good addition. I took my furbaby so we took our own throws for the sofa because he’s used to sitting with us. We had a power cut one day and the neighbours were lovely when we were trying to work out if it was just us. Parking is an issue. We have 2 cars and we accidentally parked in someone’s space. He was very mean to me and made me very uncomfortable even though I was apologising and explaining. We were of course going to move the car. We didn’t see the number hidden in the bushes. No need for his reaction, but that’s not the fault of the owners just beware! If you have a second car check the parking spaces! It does lack some cleanliness as in lots of cobwebs and when your dog likes balls we found lots! We had a fantastic time here and visited a few places. The park across the road is perfect for a morning run around with kids or dogs! Jasper loved it over there. He doesn’t like to go to the toilet in the garden so it’s a massive tick for me! It’s peaceful and quaint and we had the best time and we hope to return to relive the magic of our first family holiday. Thank you =]

No problems at all (couldn't find a mop), but as in all of the feedback beware, as the stairs are not suitable for elderly dogs or people! Anti-slip mats have been installed in response to previous comments I guess. Nice little garden - a bit of a sun trap.

  • "The cottage was generally fine and good value."

Set in a nice development and ideally located for the Southern Lakes. Parking was good and the facilities were more than adequate. There are one or two things which need replacing/repairing such as the shower head bracket and bathroom shelf.

  • "The cottage was small with minimum facilities."

While we could not say that the cottage was dirty cleanliness was just passable with numerous marks and cobwebs throughout. The stairs were certainly not appropriate for anyone with mobility issues and this should be highlighted. The weather was hot while we were there which meant the heat in the upstairs living area was intolerable. Ideal location for Turing the lakes and pet friendly but would not be making a return visit

It is an ideal location for touring the Lakes, and is in a small village, not a busy town. Grange is a 5 minute drive for facilities. It has been extremely hot all over the country, and I too was warm at home. The layout/size of the property is clear in the photographs for you to make your choice whether to book or not. Could have been a little cleaner if being honest. Local shop and post office in Lindale village has been closed for quite sometime so information needs updating on the website. Overall though we would recommend to friends and family.

  • "The property has potential and is in a good location."

However there are a lot of things broken, not working and there is a lot of things left around the property. I feel the property is not up to the standard of places I have previously stayed at with Sykes cottages.

We are unaware of anything broken, or anything not working- if you had mentioned this during your stay we could have sorted this for you immediately rather than you suffering in silence until you had left. The property reflects country living rather than a clinical hotel; apologies if the boardgames, books and homely decoration caused issue for you when ‘left around the property’. Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately our stay turned out was as follows."

On arriving mid evening in a very cold property we realised after a short time that the property had not been cleaned since last use and the bed was unchanged. We were grateful to the cleaning firm that on ringing them they came out and put things right - although not a restful way to start a weekend break. We were doubly unlucky to lose all power on our second night on account of Storm Arwen and it was not restored before we left – therefore no heat or any opportunity to use virtually any facility in the property. Before submitting this review we asked the owners via Sykes for an explanation of the uncleaned state of the property but none was received. This was really not adequate and displayed no sense of responsibility for such a disappointing experience. Therefore we have decided to record our experience for the benefit of others.

Kids loved mezzanine level and giant beanbag. Reasonably well equipped, could just do with a few more teaspoons (2 didn't last long between 4) and a better hoover as it didn't pick up much. Lovely Greek restaurant in Grange-over-sands, and lots to do not too far away.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a good location for exploring the Lake District."

Only down side was the stairs as they are steep and they would benefit from a stair gate especially with dogs as this would help to keep them upstairs. Not really subtitle for anyone with young children due to no stair gate. But overall a lovely place to stay .

  • "It is a really nice place to stay."

I was very pleased with the facilities available and the beds were very comfortable. I was very pleased with the cottage as a whole, it was a great place to stay. The garden is a sun trap, so it was really nice to sit in the garden and watch the birds. A couple of things to mention for anyone staying here in the future. 1) The enclosed garden is not accessible directly from the house, you have go through the courtyard (car park) round to the side of the house. 2) The local shop is the post office but it closes at 1pm everyday and is obviously closed on a Sunday. It also does not really have a huge selection. 3) The stairs to the first floor are treated wood, with a bend in them. My dog struggled with them to the point where we had to carry him down the first day and he refused to go up them again. I assume it was because of the grip as they are also not good if you are just wearing socks either. So probably not great for people unstable on their feet either as the hand rail is on the narrowest part if the bend and not the wall. I would highly recommend the accommodation as a whole and is in a really central location. Around 30mins Morecambe and Windermere.

  • "We were happy with the cottage, which was very well equipped and comfortable."

Just a few minor comments….. It would be helpful if the description mentioned the steep, uncarpeted, slippy stairs as an older couple may struggle with these. (Also, our dog found them very tricky). It should also be pointed out that the living area and kitchen are upstairs. Probably due to Covid, we ate mainly at home. We were only cooking basic meals for 2 people and we needed at least an extra oven baking sheet and an additional, much larger saucepan. It is advertised as a 4 bed property so the current equipment is insufficient.

  • "The pre-holiday communications were all very helpful (at Lindale, change “garage” to large “car-showroom”."

The cottage itself was very clean and well-appointed. The Black Ring-binder contained useful information. The beds were very comfortable !! The shower head has a life of its own and cannot be kept at an appropriate angle - problem was solved by simply hand-holding it !! The location was splendid as it was close to Grange-over-Sands with its many shops, restaurants and take-aways of various types, and, of course, its Promenade, with toilets, cafes, and crazy golf, pitch and putt, and tennis court, and great views over Morecambe Bay Short drives took you to Bowness for sails on Lake Windermere and lots of shops and restaurants, to Ambleside, and to Hawkshead.

... 1) Twin beds not made into double as requested - this was rectified promptly. 2) Issue with the lack of hot water - fixed on day 4. NEGATIVES: - Overall appearance of cottage quite grubby. In need of a deep clean, skirting boards dirty, drip stains down back of sofa and kitchen wall, bathroom not adequately cleaned (sink overflow filthy). - Crockery and utensils, especially glasses, needed washing before use, not just for personal satisfaction, just not clean! - Twin beds are short in length and springs can be felt - not really suitable for adults. - Ice box in fridge blocked with ice and frost, well overdue a defrost. POSITIVES: - Well laid out living space - Shower pressure great once working - Lovely fluffy towels, good size - Nice garden area and good garage space.

  • "Nice clean, quiet, comfortable, warm and very well presented property in an area with good access to other areas of the lakes."

All ammenties were well thought out and well presented. The kitchen had all you needed to prepare a meal and the welcome basket was a nice touch to get us started after a long drive. The local pub was friendly but the food was no better (or worse) than any other pub, though slightly more expensive as we had expected being the only pub in the village. We ate there a couple of times, as it is the only pub in Lindale itself and, the only other place to aquire provisions in the village walking in distance is the small post office store but, at just under 5 miles away, Grange Over Sands has two other pubs and a bigger selection of shops. They also have a few great take aways ("Fish Over Chips" was great). The stairs in the property were a little worrying with an OAP with us but, weren't a problem as we were aware of this, although the property wouldn't be suitable for someone with very limited mobility. Off road parking is provided (and appreciated in the Lakes) but was a minor issue due to the turning area. Nice small enclosed garden area with chairs and table. Although we were aware the cottage allowed dogs and understood the need for the covers on the sofas, continually having to adjust them was a bit of a pain. However, even the able bodied should be careful on the entrance step. Due to the placing of the door frame on the top step its very narrow and easy to miss your footing. These are picky and minor things and all in all its hard to find criticism for the property, we would highly recommend this property as a great base for visiting all the Lake District has to offer.
