  • "Property well furnished, clean and comfortable - would highly recommend."

Unfortunately it rained heavily most of the week we were there but that's the chance you take going so early in the year. One thing worth pointing out was that after opening the key box to access the door keys we were unable to close the box. After contacting Sykes the property owner rang us to tell us that you have to re-input the key box number before you can close the box. Worth knowing.

  • "Stayed for the Christmas week, was a bit disappointed that there were no decorations, this didn’t affect our stay though."

Comfy and cosy with a well equipped kitchen. Position is excellent, lovely courtyard setting right in the centre of Sedbergh. Plenty of walks straight from your door, handy parking space so you can park the car and leave it! Would recommend and would stay again.

  • "We spent a very pleasant week in the cottage in Sedbergh."

Sedbergh is a fantastic base for hill walking with numerous walks starting from the town so no need to use the car, which we appreciated. The cottage was as described, comfortable, well appointed and spotless. The kitchen was well equiped, the wifi excellent and good tv connection. The shower is very good and the towels provided were big and fluffy. A minor annoyance was a faint motor or fan noise coming from the cupboard on the first floor landing. Maybe from the extraction from the bathroom? When we arrived, there was a dog/child gate between the kitchen and the living room. As we didn't want to operate it during our stay and we tripped a few times on it, we removed it for the duration of our stay. It is easily done and we put it back before leaving. Maybe a note about this could be added to the cottage information folder? Once again this is minor and did not distract from our overall enjoyment of the place and we appreciate that those gates might be very useful for guests with dogs and/or small children.

  • "The pull cords for the light and shower in the bathroom are too high !"

My wife at 5'2" couldn't reach them !. You correctly identified the steps leading down to the property but I would also make it clear that it's a one minute walk round to avoid them. The proximity to 3 pubs / restaurants was good. A nice little spot. Batteries failed in a smoke alarm in the middle of the night but fortunately there was a ladder and I was able to disconnect them. I telephoned to report this the following day and was a little surprised that in the absence of spares I wasn't asked replace the batteries and then be reimbursed.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Piggy Bank, it is a beautiful cottage and had everything we wanted."

The kitchen is very well equipped, comfortable beds, cosy living room and good bathroom. There are excellent walks from the door all around whether it be long hill walks or short riverside wanderings and some interesting bookshops to visit in the town as well as nice pubs and a good chippy. The courtyard is very quiet and the neighbours were very friendly, no problems with the designated parking either. We would definitely come and stay here again.

Thank you for choosing Piggy Bank Cottage and we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. We have noted your comments re the duvet and windows, a spare lighter weight duvet is now in situ for those who would prefer it, and the windows will be eased as quickly as can arrange be arranged. • "This was a fabulous cottage in a great location."

Everything was as described (with lots of new appliances and furniture). Kitchen is probably the best we have had in a rental - bean to cup coffee machine was great. Carpets were sumptuous. The house was spotlessly clean and tidy. Wifi surprisingly good in this area. Great places to eat and shop on the doorstep. One small improvement would be a lighter duvet - it was very heavy and hot for us and we struggled to get the windows open.

Thank you for choosing Piggy Bank Cottage and we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay. We appreciate your feedback and have noted your comments regarding the windows and duvet. A spare lighter weight duvet is now available as an alternative, and the windows will be eased at the end of this month.Thank you for letting us know, it is most helpful. Best wishes, Sandra & Peter. • "We have had a lovely holiday at Piggy Bank cottage, property was clean with modern appliances and the over all standard was to a good quality."

My only criticism is the decor in the lounge is looking a bit tired and dated compared to the rest of the cottage. The electric log burning effect fire looks odd against and fire surround that in my opinion isn't very attractive and not original to the property. The sofa's are comfortable but a little tired looking (please don't be offend this is solely my personal opinion.) We found the main double bed was a little to hard and i couldn't sleep on it. So i ended up in the double bed under the childrens bunk bed which i slept soundly. I understand everyone is different when it it comes to beds so this could be down to personal preference. So I've still rated 5 out of 5 for over all comfort. The bathroom was nice but the toilet seat doesn't seem to fit the toilet properly and it can slip when you sit on it so we we're careful when using it. Having said all the above I would still highly recommend the cottage and would stay again. I would score it 98% out if 100. It had a very cosy warm feel to it which is perfect for us when we've been out hiking fells all day. We found the the shower and bath excellent. A nice morden and extremely clean bath room. The kitchen and facility were excellent to a good standard and very clean. The property overall was extremely clean. Great carpets through out soft under foot. When we hoovered the hoover smelled a bit doggy, We don't have dogs so maybe it was more obvious to us but just wanted to bring it the owners attention. Bedding and towels were great quality and were clean and fresh. Good off street parking with a pretty little court yard and a very short walking distance to shops and pubs. Sedbergh village itself was smaller than we thougt but has everything you need. Powells fruit n veg shop has very fresh and lovely produce. The Dalesman Inn pub was our favourite for eating out and drinks. Nice sandwich shops and coffee shops. Nice Florist and craft makers shops. Farfield Mill is a fantastic place to visit if you like arts and crafts. It was full of craft makers who are happy to share and discuss their creative trades with stunning works of art. Over all we have had a fabulous holiday and would probably stay for 2 weeks next time as we couldn't fit everything in that we wanted to do. I hope I've not offend the owners of this property i just wanted to give my honest opinion in this review and constructive feed back. So to summarise this is a lovely cosy clean and well kept cottage to stay and we recommend it to anyone who loves the Yorkshiredales and wants a good base to stay. Sedbergh itself is a superb location for walker's and this lovely cosy cottage is set in the very scenic location with plenty to do you just need to go out and explore. Thank you piggy bank cottage for a welcoming stay. We shall be back.

About the location

SEDBERGH

Kendal 11.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 11.8 miles, Hawes 15.8 miles.

The attractive old market town of Sedbergh (pronounced Sed-Ber), with its old-world atmosphere, is not only set in the magnificent western dales of the Yorkshire Dales National Park but is also close to the rugged eastern fells of the Lake District. The town, with its narrow streets, little shops, traditional pubs, famous school dating back to 1525 and its 12th century church, has been a thriving community for hundreds of years, with a market dating from the 13th Century. Leading from Sedbergh is Dentdale, the jewel of the Yorkshire Dales with its rolling hills and dry-stone walls, stretching 14 miles from the windswept moors below Whernside to the confluence of the Rivers Dee and Rawthey. At the centre of the dale is Dent, with its cobbled streets, which has existed since Norman times and nearby Dent railway station is on the renowned Settle-Carlisle railway line. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, and fishing, and the area is a paradise for walkers, ramblers, runners, and cyclists. This, together with the tranquillity of the surrounding valleys, the two National Parks and it being England's book town, makes an ideal year-round holiday destination.
