Keswick 17 miles; Carlisle 20 miles.
The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

Previous visitors' comments about Rock Cottage:
One of the best cottages we have stayed in! Thanks.
Mrs Sutton, Sheffield, February 2012
The house was very comfortable and consistent with the recommendation that was given by a staff member of Sykes Cottages. The house was very child friendly and it was wonderful to have the garden with the horses coming to greet the children at the back of the garden. Very good layout to have 2 sitting rooms which gave plenty of space during the holiday. The couple who own the property were also very friendly and helpful.
Ms Gilmour, London, July 2011
The cottage was the best one we have ever stayed in. The whole family loved it. Comfy, well equipped and well furnished. The village location was perfect for visiting the Lakes and further north, but also great for a lazy day in the sunshine.
Liddicott, Wakefield, May 2011
Cottage was lovely and it had a homely feel about it.
