  • "The Barn at Stainton is a beautiful property."

It is spacious and well equipped. Its location is great to explore the lakes and we even went up to Hadrian’s Wall! Real thought is put into welcoming guests and communication was excellent. If you stay here you will not be disappointed. Thank you to all involved.

  • "Property was freezing when we arrived Saturday at 4pm 18/11/23 (due to leave 25th November)."

Turned the heating on straight away and went to each room to turn the radiator thermostats on, we also lit the wood burner. We stayed one night as it was far too cold to stay any longer the barn didn’t get any warmer throughout the night. We packed up and left the following day. The purpose of our stay was to have friends and family visit through the week at a central location something we do annually. We had to cancel due to the property being so cold. We ate & slept with our clothes on. I rang the emergency number on the Saturday night and the Sunday morning…phone rang 3 times then phone disconnected. We paid £1,300.00 to stay one night..neither the owner of the property or Sykes cottage are interested in offering any form of refund or even reply to my telephone calls. Think twice before you decide to book this property or indeed booking through Sykes… I was told yesterday by a Sykes employee that I can contact the owner directly to discuss the situation with them. I asked how? I don’t have their information. I was told if I issue a legal claim through the courts I will then be given the owners name and address. Property not fit for purpose!

Everyone loved the house especially our 4 year old grandson Jude who said one day "I don't want to do fun things today, I want to stay in the holiday home" He loved sitting at the dining table playing games.

  • "We loved the cottage and the beautiful surroundings."

It was very clean and very well equipped. The only small thing was that there was no toilet paper or hand soap when we arrived (luckily we brought our own), just thought it would be worth mentioning. Overall a very good stay and would come back again.

Thank you for your kind comments, we are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "A superb property with everything we could possibly need."

Six adults and a big dog and we had loads of room - we loved the living space and the entrance hall. So great to have plenty of room for us all and our coats, boots etc. Kitchen is so well equipped - fabulous appliances - especially the fridge freezer and the dishwasher. Also great to have so much crockery and cutlery. Loved every minute.

  • "Lower oven broken and has been since at least June 2022 (we read this in the property’s guest book) and was still broken during our stay, which is extremely poor considering the small cost of repairing or replacing an oven."

This disrupted our stay as we cooked dinner at the property most evenings, and the lack of being able to use the lower oven caused issues with this! There was a note on the oven to say to turn the temperature up and cook food for longer, but with the fan being broken this didn’t work and just resulted in burned and unevenly cooked food which wasn’t cooked through. Building work was going on every day of our stay, beginning at around 7am. This could’ve been semi-acceptable had we been informed of this prior to our stay, however I believe that all guests should be informed before and given the option to book elsewhere if they do not want to be woken early every morning by the noise. No prior notice was given about this. During our stay, one of the fences enclosing the garden was taken down without any notice. This resulted in us letting our dogs out into a wide open space where building work was going on as we had no idea the fence had been removed! The builders added a Heras fence panel later that day to contain the area, but why wasn’t this done immediately after removing the old fence to avoid dogs being let loose? The property is beautiful, clean and in a great location. It could’ve been a great stay had these things not happened!

  • "It's a shame we didn't have a fab time like we hoped for , the barn was lovely but not the best wifi , We very nearly cut out stay short due to the constant comments from the lady in the attached property requesting we keep quiet this evening due to her daughter having gcse exams following day , also complaining of us walking around the property loudly she could hear us , we didn't have loud music we didn't party all night , we were a family of 3 generations coming away for a relaxing time to celebrate my dad turning 70 ."

The neighbour said we were feeding the horses which is highly unlikely concidering i'm allergic to them , we were also woken every morning at 7am by the builder working next door to the property mon to fri , which we were not informed about , the property is also dog friendly which was awkward when the neighbour had her horse in the garden and my dog was barking at so we couldn't let her out to lie in the garden We payed a lot of money to stay somewhere that was not far from home , we only lived 40 miles away , all we got was a sorry you didn't have a good time when contacting the company . It's such a shame because the property was beautiful and spacious with everything you could possibly need .

  • "Willowsway barn was exactly as described however with lots of extras."

Hairdryers provided in the bedrooms, bottles of wine on arrival, hand wash in the toilets and much more. The beds were really comfortable and everything in the house was of a high standard. There were ten of us ( 3 families) and 2 dogs. Lots of room for us to relax in comfort. The canal was next to the property which enabled us to walk along it with the dogs to the pub. Would certainly recommend this property.

  • "We stayed here as a group of girls."

Upon arriving we were greeted with bottles of wine and Prosecco which was a lovely surprise! The house was better than photos, it was very clean and each room had everything we needed eg Towels, hair dryer, blankets and iron. We were worried with it being the winter months it may be too cold however the heating was on point as soon as we turned the heating up the house was roasting. The interior design, the facilities and all the small finish and touches were amazing! We got loads of insta worthy photos hahaha. The house is located on a working farm with lots of horses around and the views from the house are incredible however due to it being in a neighbourhood we weren’t allowed to make too much noise so if you want to party till late this isn’t the place for you. Overall we are very happy with our stay and would love to return in the future!

Everything had been thought of. I feel I should mention the building works going as they were in another review and I wanted to say it didn’t disturb us in any way and it will be interesting to see the changes when we hopefully return.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Willowsway Barn though felt it would have been useful to know that there was building work happening on site."

We were lucky and only had an hour or two of noise the first day and as it was a weekend stay we weren’t disturbed too much over the weekend. Anyone staying from Monday for a week might be more annoyed. Each morning we were also woken before 7.30am by dogs barking, which we assumed were the owner’s living nearby? Overall, a lovely barn with high spec facilities.

  • "There was an issue with the log fire which someone attended asap, small issue but others will need to know to lift tge grate if room fills with smoke."

You can hear neighbours at times, and they had an extention from window to a caravan which hung across door way and could of been dangerous due to lack of outside lighting. Our stay despite the comments was great and would definitely consider returning again soon. Great location, great views, great comfortable home with plenty of room. 5 star

! Absolutely nothing has been overlooked by the owners. It’s very much off the beaten track but this was no issue for us. Ideal for large families. The home is spotlessly clean, the information provided is detailed and clear and they have clearly gone above and beyond for travellers’ essentials. We were very sad to be leaving and wished we had gone for a full week. Well done Sykes for this brilliant find
