This beautiful Ribblesdale village sits within the National Park and provides home to lots of pretty traditional Dales buildings, a lovely Norman church and two pubs. The surrounding countryside is magnificent, offering the ideal location for fell walking, with the famous Three Peaks Walk, Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough offering some of the most challenging walks in the country. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway passes through the village and passes some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. The Ribblehead viaduct, completed in 1870 is a magnificent structure and the sight of a steam train passing across the top is one not to be missed. The nearby market town of Settle offers a wide variety of pubs and restaurants whilst the market square is a real delight featuring the Shambles, an historic 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. The Victoria Hall is a cinema at weekends (Fri & Sat) and offers other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham and the delightful villages of Ingleton and Hawes.

Unspoilt and quiet, the lovely little hamlet of Newhouses lies on the famous Pennine Way, just half a mile upstream from the popular village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Oak Cottage is a detached Dales cottage situated in the centre of the hamlet with views towards Pen-y-Ghent to the north, and Ingleborough to the south. It has been fully renovated but retains much character including exposed beams and traditional farmhouse furniture – there are even roses over the door! The coal fire ensures it is warm and cosy at all times of the year, and the owners who live in the nearby farmhouse, personally welcome visitors. An ideal base for a walking and sightseeing holiday!
Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Fitted kitchen with pantry/utility room. Cosy sitting room with open fire and dining area. Small entrance lobby. Hallway with door to rear garden.

South-facing patio to front of cottage and large sheltered, enclosed rear garden with garden furniture and BBQ. Up to 2 well-behaved dogs welcome (please note, this property is close to owner’s working hill farm). Non smokers preferred. Shops 6 miles, pub 0.5 miles. Mobile shop in village most days. Note: There is no mobile phone reception at this property.

Homeliness and location of this cottage was excellent. A fire was burning in the grate when we arrived on a cold day. Unlimited coal was available throughout our stay at no extra cost. It was exactly what we we wanted.
