Settle 5 miles; Skipton 20 miles.
Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this is arguably one of the finest areas for walking in the region. With limestone pavements and scars, caves and open moors, the area has a wealth of natural interest and there are wonderful cycle tracks and walks on the doorstep. Austwick boasts a local pub serving excellent home cooked meals and a country hotel for something a little more special, as well as a shop and post office for visitors’ daily requirements. This quiet village is nicely off the beaten track, yet the market towns of Settle, Kirkby Lonsdale, Skipton and Kendal are all within easy driving distance.

Previous visitors' comments about The Friendly Room:
We found the cottage cosy and ideal for us and the locality of the cottage to many walks and cycle routes and places to visit was also ideal. The owners were very friendly also.
Mrs O'Connor, Hull, November 2011
Excellent location with walking and cycling from the door - we didn't use the car once. Very friendly and helpful owners. Well equipped so you could choose to eat in or use one of the two good eating places in the village.
Mrs Brown, Hull, September 2011
Our hosts were exceptionally friendly, helpful and generous. The cottage is perfectly located in the lovely village of Austwick, and we enjoyed our many walks around the countryside as well as excellent dinners at both the Game Cock pub and the Traddock Hotel. We didn't have a car, but it was no problem to catch the local bus into Settle for market day, where we got wonderful provisions for cooking back at our cottage. We also caught the Settle to Carlisle train up to Carlisle, a beautiful trip.
Mrs Teason, Hamden, September 2011
I thought the accommodation was very well equipped, without cluttering the fresh, modern decor. There were thoughtful touches which shows the owner's attention to detail. Austwick is a very pretty and friendly village, well situated for walking in the western Dales, but also within easy range of all of the Yorkshire Dales, the Forest of Bowland and even the South
Lakes.
