Location: Kettlewell

Grassington 7 miles; Skipton 14 miles.

Nestling at the foot of Great Whernside, near the head of Upper Wharfedale, this idyllic village makes the perfect place from which to explore the wonderful scenery and pretty villages of this magnificent Dale. Much of Upper Wharfedale is National Trust owned - an indication of the beauty of its classic countryside, with dry-stone walls and barns, important flower-rich hay meadows and valley side woodland. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best walking and mountain biking areas in the Dales, with The Dales Way passing nearby. The village itself lying on the banks of the River Wharfe is a real delight with traditional built stone cottages, two excellent pubs, a post office, speciality shops and a hotel. No surprise that the hit movie Calendar Girls was filmed here and in other locations throughout the area. An excellent base for enjoying the famous Dales, historic market towns, caves and waterfalls of this magical area.

Previous visitors' comments about Fern Cottage:

I love this cottage. The cottage itself, the owners and the location are all superb. This is the closest I have ever come to being able to completely relax. You could quite happily spend your time within Upper Wharfedale without venturing out of it.
Mrs Tennant, Gosport, February 2012

This cottage is in a fabulous location, and it was great to be able to do lots of walking, straight from the doorstep, with local amenities very nearby.
Ms Mann, Stockport, November 2011

The cottage is lovely - very cosy and well appointed. Suitable for smaller numbers, there is nothing that you can possibly find fault with. Set in the upper reaches of beautiful Wharfedale, Kettlewell offers three pubs and a village store. Walks abound and are right on the doorstep. There is actually no need to motor anywhere if you are after a relaxing week of walking or just chilling out.
Mrs Tennant, Gosport, October 2011

We liked the location and attention to detail. The owners are willing to please.
