  • "Lovely cottage."

We hired Bilbo and Hudson for a family together and it was very successful. Both cottages were very well equipped, the grounds were great for our 5 year old twin grandsons and our son and daughter in laws dog. We were able to spend time and share our meals together. Highly recommended. Just sorry there was no freezer in either of the properties, but we managed.

  • "The cottage was nice and as described."

We only had one issue, there was a burning fuel smell coming off the oil heating boiler. We tolerated it up to a point then we had to call manager, firstly for safety reasons, and also because it was uncomfortable to be around. There is no door on the kitchen (where the boiler is located) it’s open to the rest of the cottage so the smell went everywhere. To be fair it was dealt with fine, someone came to check it and reassure us it was safe. But we constantly had to open the windows to let fresh air in, then the temperature would drop in the cottage so you would have to close them, and also the boiler would kick in as the thermostat sensed the drop and then it would produce the smell again, which was very annoying. I think this was because the boiler hadn’t been on in a while. I would suggest it running it for a week or so prior to guests staying to ensure there is no smell as it’s very uncomfortable. Unfortunately this did give us an overall negative view of the cottage and we probably wouldn’t stay again for that reason, which is a real shame as everything else was very good.

The cottage was cosy had everything we needed. We loved taking walks in the grounds of the Manor House and down by the river. Nature was on our doorstep, it was great to see deers and hares in the fields and birds of prey flying over. We loved our stay and can’t wait to visit again soon!

Thank you for you lovely feedback. The cottages, and location are perfect for nature lovers like yourself. Wyreside Cottages Property Owner

Most things we expected were there, but no teapot or milk jug/ measuring jug and no mixing bowl even though there were baking trays. We enjoyedr the outdoor walks. I am sure the enclosed garden would be enjoyable in the summer. Also, i am sure I read on their website that the cottage had a washing machine and tumble drier, but there was none. However, enjoyable break and would book again.

We are very pleased you enjoyed you stay, and would book again. Washing machine, dryer, and Ironing facilities are available. Lucy is on hand to assist everyone during your stay. Lucy's number is in the information packs, and in the cottage Wyreside Cottages Property Owner

Fantastic if you have dogs. I have also stayed in Elsa and like both, but garden in Elsa is better for v small elderly dog as Bilbo has small wall onto lawn that was too high for small dog. Everything was clean and well maintained. Plan to try Balloo next time

  • "It was a lovely little cottage."

We were a family of 3 adults and 1 child, and had thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a good sized bedrooms, comfortable beds, good sized bathrooms, good heating and hot water - you will be very comfortable here. The kitchen was good sized, and well equipped. Although, it only had a kettle and mugs in terms of tea and coffee making facilities. We brought our own cafetière, (which we bought for the trip and forgot to take back with us, so it may still be there:-)) but if you wanted to make pots of tea, it would be an idea to bring one with you. It was set in a stunning location - we had great walks in the grounds. Our daughter was very taken by the hen that joined us in the backyard - she was named Lady Cluckington. We would definitely recommend it and if we had the opportunity, would love to go back.

The cottages are amazing bathrooms all fabulous and location fantastic. Having the enclosed garden was unexpected but great for the children at the wedding. The cottages were very well cleaned and great spacious accomadation set in a beautiful grounds. Great kitchen but need oven gloves. Only complaint is each cottage need at least one full length mirror especially as it’s accommodation for wedding parties.

  • "Bilbo accommodation has a good size garden with lawn, hedging and fencing."

It also has a large patio area and picnic bench seating. Ideal for sitting out and for dogs. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, microwave, double oven and under counter fridge with larder. All 3 bedrooms are a good size. Two double beds and two single beds in the third bedroom. The grounds are great to explore with dogs too. There is some building work being done at the hall but generally the site is very quiet. I would rebook this accommodation without hesitation. An ideal location for day trips to Lancaster, Morecambe Bay, Grange over Sands, Lake District and The Yorkshire Dales - Ingleton Waterfall trail is not to be missed if you and your party are able to climb steps.

  • "We enjoyed our stay with our dog at The Bilbo; the grounds of Wyreside Hall are stunning and it is well placed for walks and visits to nearby Lancaster and Morecambe coast."

However, although the accommodation is spacious with good spec on fixtures and fittings, finishing touches are rather lacking and this gives a transient "holiday house" feeling rather the "home-from -home" atmosphere which the property really deserves. This could be easily rectified with the addition of few basic items: coat hooks somewhere downstairs , prints on the walls, lamps/occasional lighting downstairs, books and games as listed- these were not available, lounge seating to match occupancy more comfortably, bigger pans, more crockery and cutlery including cooking knives, plastic glasses to take outside,a hairdryer,an iron and ironing board in the property, waste paper baskets in bathrooms are some suggestions. All in all though, we had a lovely break and would come again as there is so much to see and do from this location.

  • "Beautiful grounds."

Comfortable &modern accommodation. However lacking in basics, eg no coat hooks anywhere in house, no long handled brush, very minimal no of glasses crockery &cutlery. Could do with things like a grater, masher, wooden spoon, even some pictures on the walls would be nice Bilbo, Skipper &Baloo do not have secure gardens, our dog escaped a couple of times from the garden. Elsa &Hudson were secure. No washing machine in property. Advertised as having dvd player, dvds & books but these were not present, although there is a smart TV. We would return as it's in a fabulous setting & only 15mins from Lancaster, but would be careful which property we booked for the secure garden & would bring some extra bits with us.

  • "We booked this cottage because it was listed as a 3 double bedroom cottage and had pictures showing 3 double rooms each with a double bed."

When we arrived we found the cottage to be a 2 double and one twin. The twin room lay out was such the we couldn't even push the beds together and they were different heights anyway, so if there had been room, it still would not have worked. This meant that one of the couples had to sleep seperately for our special New Year's break. This isn't the end of the world, but when we paid a higher price for a cottage with 3 doubles then we could have for 2 doubles and a twin, we expect 3 doubles. I spoke to the owner and she said she doesn't understand why it is listed as a 3, as she hasn't said this. It is still listed as a 3 double now. I suggest that you rectify this error ASAP as it will surely irritate other customers as well. I would be grateful to receive a response to this grievance. Other then this, our stay was very enjoyable, the cottage and surroundings were beautiful and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

  • "I would just like to say that the accommodation was exceptional."

A beautifully presented and well appointed accommodation in a magnificent setting. The cottage is perfectly positioned for access to numerous locations from the lake district to North Yorkshire and down to the cities of Manchester and Liverpool with the historic city of Lancaster right on the doorstep. The cottage was a joy to return to every day and extended the days long into the night and was so much more than just a base. We would have been as happy to spend the day in rather than going out if we had stayed longer. One thing you could improve is to have accurate directions on the website as some people do not have sat nav and it was the third trip to the property before we discovered the best way to access it. A couple of hours were wasted driving around the country lanes trying to find the entrance as google maps shows it in a different location and it is not signposted on the roads themselves. But this is a small criticism for a wonderful location. We will definitely be coming back.
