  • "The property was in a wonderful position."

It was clean and well-equipped. There is a useful lobby for coats and boots. The bed was comfortable. However, there was a smell of damp and despite prolonged use of the de-humidifier provided, the bedroom especially was unpleasant to waken in. Therefore we felt the need to have the noisy humidifier on much of the night. The owners denied that there was a serious issue when we raised it. A second thing to be aware of is that the one place to relax is advertised as being an open plan room but the two seat sofa faces the kitchen rather than any view.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. Far for denying that there might have been a issue, we acted immediately once contacted by Sykes. Our cleaning/maintenance representative inspected the property that afternoon and could find no evidence of a damp odour at the property. We provide a dehumidifier to assist guests in drying out wet clothing / boots. The photographs clearly show the kitchen / dining area (described as 'open plan') and the description makes no reference to a view from the sofa. However, the kitchen table/chairs look out onto one of the garden areas, again evidenced by the photography. The property has been fully let all year and the feedback/ratings have been extremely positive, reflecting our desire to provide a great holiday experience in a wonderful setting. Property Owner

  • "Lovely little apartment in an ideal spot."

Excellent views from the grounds and good position for exploring the Lake District. Just missing the little touches. I usually use AirBnb where you would normally have at least a few tea bags, coffee and a small fresh milk waiting for you. Also just one toilet roll for two people for a week is a bit stingy.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the apartment, location and grounds. A pint of milk is usually left in the fridge - apologies that this was overlooked on this occasion. Property Owner

  • "The perfect base for exploring the Central Lakes."

We didn't move the car for the entire week. Grasmere Village is just a short walk away, with plenty of facilities, and there are fantastic walks from the back gate in every direction, including Lakeland Classics, such as the Fairfield Horseshoe or shorter, less strenuous, but equally spectacular options, such as the coffin route to Rydal. Rambler's Roost was perfectly equipped and spacious for two, and we would whole-heartedly recommend it.

Thank you for your feedback and your comments in our visitors book. Just to say our glasses are kept in the cupboard above the microwave. We are also looking to change refuse collectors in 2023 to a company who offers recycling. We are pleased the red squirrels made an appearance during your stay and hope you return to Ramblers Roost in the future. Property Owner

We were particularly impressed by the speed at which our report of a broken shower head was dealt with. We loved that the apartment was so convenient for both the facilities in the village of Grasmere and for access to multiple walks, many from the property itself.

  • "It was a fantastic apartment in every way, beautifully clean and superb location."

The only drawback was the dog yapping incessantly in the apartment above. Listing had said no dogs allowed but clearly that was not the case for the whole house. So what I thought would be a peaceful dog-free retreat was not what was promised.

Thank you for your feedback. Our apartment is completely dog free but there are eight other apartments and some may allow dogs. Had we been made aware we would have asked the owners to have a polite word with their guests. Kind regards Property Owner

The accommodation was well equipped and clean and a pleasure to come back to at the end of longs days out on the hills. The best thing was the magical shared garden. Nights out there on the lawn overlooking Grasmere were just perfect. We’re already hoping to rebook.

Well equipped. Fantastic location with lots of footpaths next to the property. Very quiet and peaceful away from the centre of Grasmere which is what we like. 10/15 Minute Walk to Centre of Grasmere. Area served by a fantastic selection of public transport which helped us with linear walks and meant we could park the car at Ramblers Roost and forget about it.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry if you had an issue with the hot water, we would have loved the opportunity to have rectified this for you during your stay. We have had an electrician round to the property to look into the hot water who has now set it to be on 60 degrees at all times. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. Property Owner

Ramblers Roost is perfect for couples being large enough and being equipped and decorated to a high standard. A big plus also was the car parking space outside the front door. The views from the terrace over Grasmere lake are stunning with an added bonus of Red Squirrels present in the garden. We would definitely return at some point to Ramblers Roost and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

I have asthma and really struggled at night as the smell was so strong I could taste it. Other than that it would have been a perfect stay.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that you found there to be a smell of mold. It is a shame that you did not mention anything at the time as we could have looked to help if we were made aware. The cleaner has not noticed any smell since or prior to your booking and cannot find any mold. The property has circulation vents fitted and has never had any mold issues reported before but the cleaner will keep check on this. We hope you enjoyed your stay otherwise. Property Owner

It has been furnished with care and has absolutely everything needed for a holiday in the lakes, including books and information about the area. Also a starter pack of milk, tea, coffee and biscuits which was greatly appreciated. Being on my own it was nice knowing there were people around in the other apartments and I got to know a few who were very friendly and doing a lot of walking like myself. And what a perfect position for walking! I left the car once I arrived and did not use it again. There are so many walks from the door, and the bus service just down the hill is superb and punctual. The grounds are amazing too, with so many birds to see and listen to, and the wonderful red squirrels who come daily to the feeder on the tree right by the terrace. Sitting on the terrace in the evening, listening to the birds and looking down over the lake was a real treat. I hope to visit again.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
