Location: Irton Hall

Wasdale Head 5 miles.

Irton Hall is situated in the foothills of the Western fells, and sits amongst beautiful Lakeland countryside just a couple of miles from Santon Bridge and Eskdale Green. Irton Hall is steeped in history; both Oliver Cromwell and Henry VI found their way there. Within the grounds is a 1000 year old tree, The Kings Oak. Tradition has it that Henry VI arrived at Irton Hall and sought shelter; being refused by the then owner, Irton, a Yorkist, King Henry spent the night under the great oak in front of the hall, which still stands and is hence called 'The Kings Oak'. An area deemed beautiful by many Lakeland visitors, this great location boasts a skyline dominated by the towering peaks of Scafell - England's highest peak, as well as Great Gable, Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Muncaster Fell, whilst the nearby stunning valleys of Eskdale, Wasdale and Dunnerdale provide breathtaking, ever-changing scenery to be enjoyed throughout the year. Local attractions include Muncaster Castle, the World Owl Centre and the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway, one of the most beautiful train journeys imaginable. Beautiful Wastwater - the deepest lake in the country and St Olaf's - the smallest church - are amongst the many well known landmarks in this awe inspiring and unspoilt area.

Great time taking children around the lakes and passes.
Mr Waythe, Ilkley, February 2012

The surroundings were beautiful. The cottage was simply decorated but in a tasteful luxurious way. We also appreciated little touches like the ball games and the welcome pack.
Mrs Athey, Tonbridge, July 2011

Lovely cottage that was well maintained and in a nice, quiet location. Wine and chocolates awaiting our arrival was welcomed. Lovely little tearoom just short walk from cottage was a popular daily haunt for us as the food and cakes were very nice indeed. Very relaxing holiday was had by all!
Mr McCoo, Brighouse, July 2011

James Court Cottage is comfortable, well furnished and very clean. A peaceful and beautiful part of The Lake District. The Woodlands tea room serves lovely cakes and The Bridge Inn serves excellent meals at a reasonable price.
