About the location

Kirkby Stephen 6 miles; Sedbergh 12 miles.

The tranquil village of Newbiggin-on-Lune lies at the foot of the Howgill Fells, quietly sitting between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. It is a delightful rural village with a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings. Hill farming is the principal means of income in the area and an agricultural show is still held once a year on the fells, echoing the markets and shows of days gone by. The local river, the Lune for which the village was named, is very popular for trout fishing. Nearby Ravenstonedale, once described by Wainwright as one of Westmorland’s loveliest villages, boasts three pubs, all serving fine ales and modern cuisine. The area offers many walking and cycling routes, both on and off road, whilst the nearby attractions provide something for everybody. Visit the Settle to Carlisle Railway Line, the magnificent Howgill Fells and the stunning Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks. A superb location at any time of the year.

Excellent property in a central location, very warm welcome from the owner. Welcome pack with lots of little extras. This is a warm and cosy cottage providing a good base for exploring the dales and lake district.

Mr Gledhill, Doncaster, March 2014

The pictures do not do the cottage justice, it is amazing, worth 5 stars! On arrival, we were given a warm welcome from the owner. The location is perfect for sight seeing and taking long scenic walks. My 8 year old said: 'you will miss out on the best holiday ever if you don't book this cottage'.

Miss Holt, Hounslow, February 2014

Superb property, top class furnishings - all 5 star. A stay in wild January, though a great log burner to return to! Everything provided and lot of extras, much appreciated. Top, top class.

Mr Tattersall, Burnley, January 2014

We had a fantastic time at Gars Cottage and it really did exceed our expectations in every way. It's a beautifully renovated building, completed to a really high spec'. It had everything we needed and more; a well equipped kitchen, fluffy towels, comfy beds, big sofas and main lounge area with an open fire - all thumbs up from us. As the Cumbrian weather was awful the whole time we were away, we were especially thankful to have found such a lovely cosy cottage - the underfloor heating was bliss! The Christmas decorations were a lovely touch too and really made our New Year holiday feel special. I'd definitely recommend Gars Cottage as a great get away destination if you're looking to hunker down and keep cosy this winter.
