Location: Beckermet

Egremont 3 miles; St Bees 5 miles; Whitehaven 8.5 miles; Seascale 7 miles; Eskdale 11 miles.

The small village of Beckermet is located just one mile from the beautiful West Coast and sits amongst dramatic Lakeland countryside. Consisting of a scattering of cottages, farm dwellings, modern homes and two traditional English pubs serving local beers and good food, the village even boasts its own pop festival - the annual Beckfest held in August. The fells and lakes of the Western Lake District are close at hand. Relatively unknown to many Lakeland visitors, this area offers easy access to the towering peaks of Scafell Pike - England's highest peak, as well as Scarfell, Great Gable, Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Muncaster Fell: the lakes of Ennerdale, Loweswater, Crummock Water, Buttermere and Wastwater, England's deepest lake is perhaps the most awe-inspiring of all the lakes. The nearby stunning valleys of Eskdale, Wasdale and Dunnerdale provide breathtaking and ever-changing scenery to be enjoyed throughout the year. The nearby popular seaside resort of St Bees, with its historic Priory, has a long sandy beach, plus the rocky promontory of St Bees Head, the westernmost point of Cumbria and the start of Wainwright’s famous 'Coast to Coast walk'. An RSPB nature reserve on the headland is home to England's only colony of Black Guillemots. Other local attractions include Muncaster Castle with its World Owl Centre; the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway, one of the most beautiful train journeys imaginable, the famous Hardknot Pass with its Roman Fort, and the Georgian town of Whitehaven with its picturesque harbour. This stunning location will have visitors returning time and time again.

Previous visitors' comments about Longcliffe :

Excellent property, owner most helpful and quiet location - good for exploring Western lakes.
Mrs Watson, Saxmundham, March 2012

We felt very welcome, and there were some provisions left for us, which were much appreciated. The kitchen was well equipped, and bathroom supplies were also at our disposal.
Mrs Wigginton, Fribourg, October 2011

The cottage had easy access to the coast for walks and also to the less commercialised parts of the Lake District for mountain walking. The village had two good pubs for eating and the local people were very friendly towards us.
Mr Copeland, Cheltenham, September 2011

The house was amazingly well equipped. The owners had certainly gone the extra mile to ensure that our family get together was a relaxed happy time - no hassle, no fuss, no stress. Thank you. This is the 2nd time we've used Sykes and we wouldn't use any other company now. We would recommend you to anyone.
Mrs Hughes, Wigan, August 2011
