  • "When we arrived the property was extremely cold which we put down to it not being let in the previous weeks."

I mis-read the description & thought there was a bathroom on each floor of the bedrooms but as I was sleeping in the bedroom on the middle floor I either had to go up or downstairs to use the toilet in the night. The property is ideally situated a minutes walk from Windermere & with a frequent bus service other parts of the Lake District are easily accessible. The kitchen is very well equpped if you are planning on eating in. As others have said, an information folder would have been good. There are no toiletries (not even a bar of soap) so you need to take your own & the handles for both external doors are incredibly stiff to lock & unlock.

Thank you for this feedback. As this property is a self catering accommodation, toiletries and welcome packs are not provided. Thank you for alerting us to the external door issues, we will highlight this with our maintenance team. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and all the local area has to offer. • "Great house and great location."

Had a disappointing start to the holiday as the place had not been cleaned or made ready since the last occupants had left. so had to call the helpline number, cleaner arrived after about an hour and we left them to it and was all good there after. Bin at the front gate was overflowing when we arrived and we had to walk past every day until the bin lorry came, rubbish was blowing about the street and we think this annoyed the neighbours as well as ourselves with the constant picking up, also bin lorry would only take what was in the bin so when this was emptied it was quickly full again with the bags left at the side. Apart from that the cottage is a great wee traditional lake district cottage.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that there was a missed clean on your arrival, but glad that it was resolved so speedily. The bin collection could have been delayed due to councils changing pick up days over the festive season. In addition, adverse weather conditions will also affect collections. We would like to note that the council's actions do not reflect the property or Lakelovers company. We are glad that you enjoyed the property and all the area has to offer. • "Where do I start ?"

The accommodation was absolutely perfect for our needs. We were three mountain bikers and stayed for two nights. the weather as great one day and awful the next. By having a yard out the back of the property we could wash the mud off our bikes. we were allowed to put a large sheet of plastic down in the house to keep the house clean from the bikes. The shower was lovely and warm which was needed after riding for 7 hours and 5 hours. The beds were a good size and clean and comfortable. the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and wanted for nothing. The only thing wrong was the extract fan was falling apart and sounded like it had birds in it but that does not detract in the slightest what a great venue it it. Its near the pubs and restaurants, you have parking for 1 car and can park others near by. Its a credit to the owners and we will definitely return next year. Would I change anything ? No not at all. I might defrost the ice box .

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Walker's Rest."

It is located in a quiet road, but very close to lots of amenities, including Booth's supermarket (although further from the lake than we had anticipated). The house was clean, comfortable and had almost everything we needed. As some others have mentioned, there is no folder of instructions, but we worked out the WiFi, heating etc anyway, but there was no information about recycling. We ended up taking ours to the big bins in the closest car park. The two things we do want to mention are the back door which desperately needs looking at by a locksmith as it is temperamental to say the least. The other is the parking... we got into the space initially and then got blocked in for three days. We ended up buying a 7 day ticket from the local carpark (twice)... an unexpected extra cost. Once out, we couldn’t have got back in again due to other holidaymakers parking huge cars at the adjacent cottages and blocking our space. Having said that, we had a great holiday and we are looking forward to returning to the Lake District!

Really needs doing up and bringing up to date. 3 light bulbs not working something u don’t expect to go shopping for whilst on holiday. All doors very stiff to open and you need arms like Popeye to open and close. T.v doesn’t work in kitchen to add. Also some outdoor lighting would’ve been nice as normal two were there but didn’t work surprise surprise.

Very high standard of cleanliness and equipped with everything you could possibly need for a weekend away. The cottage layout is beautiful and the beds were so comfortable we took a picture and have purchased the same bed and mattress as in the master bedroom. Will be booking again in the near future.

This wasnt a problem for us but it would have been if we had taken our parents with us as not particularly suitable for elderly or disabled. The house is very conveniently situated for the town -- only few minutes walk to pubs, restaurants and shops. Overall we had a lovely time.

  • "The information booklets were in an upstairs wardrobe - to have been left on the dining table or kitchen unit would have been a better and easier location to have found them."

We had to ring up about getting into WiFi which was located on the back of the monitor. Clearer instruction on where to find the code and password would have been helpful. Perhaps we are just getting older!! We were also a little confused as to how to work the central heating system and all we needed to do was increase the temperature on the white disk in the dining area on the dresser. Otherwise we thoroughly enjoyed our week there.

But it was so quiet - you couldn’t hear a thing! The property had a small courtyard with a wooden bench - private - not closed off completely for our dogs though, there was a flight of concrete steps leading up to the main door so we had to keep an eye on our two pups in case they escaped! But none the less perfect for us! The property was very well equipped with everything you could think of in the kitchen! The beds were VERY large & VERY comfy! I would say that the property had been updated and modernised from some of the old reviews I had read in previous years! You could park one car at the rear of the property but we managed to reverse our Vauxhall Vivaro campervan into the space by the back gate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The house is very comfortable and spacious with 3 good bedrooms and a large downstairs kitchen diner. There is modern heating and plentiful hot water but just one shower, and another bathroom with shower mixer tap. Modern TV and solid walls makes it a very good let. Parking for one car at the rear but it's a tight squeeze and you really need to reverse into the space. There is plenty of free parking on Broad Street and around there too if you choose and an early bird £1 parking scheme in the car park on broad street.

A few good quality LED bulbs would sort that out. Also, a lack of mirrors over the bathroom sinks caused a few problems. The boiler could also do with a thermostat. Having to alter the boiler and then all the valves was a faff you can do without on a break.

In the lounge on first sitting on the sofa the throw covering it slid off to reveal a faux leather sofa that looked like it had been mauled by an animal, each day we had to pick up more faux leather that had come off The sofa. There is a parking space but we witnessed people trying to leave the yard that could not get out. If even one car does not park tight against the wall there is only pedestrian access in or out.The instructions left were for a completely different heating system that was not in this house, there was no refuge\recycling info.

The entrance to the cottage was shabby and the court yard was dirty and was very unkept. It was full of weeds and cobwebs and the glass in the door in the yard was broken and not child safe . Albeit the majority of the cottage was clean we had to clean the vinyl tablecloth as it had dried food left ! The kitchen was spacious and clean the stairs were uneven and you could have quite easily have slipped. The plus side was the location which was very close to pubs restaurants and about 25 minute walk to the lakes.
