Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing are available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For water sports enthusiasts the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht ‘Gondola’. Nearby attractions include the award winning village of Hawkshead, home of the Beatrix Potter Gallery, Tarn Hows, one of the most visited beauty spots in the country and Esthwaite Water, famous for its fishing. Coniston 4 miles. An attractive semi-detached barn conversion on a National Trust working hill farm, just over 2.5 miles from the quaint village of Elterwater and 4 miles from Coniston. This snug Coniston cottage is set in a spectacular location and is furnished and decorated to a good standard. With three bedrooms, this Coniston cottage is perfect for a family holiday and there’s room for the grandparents too! The bright and airy lounge at this Coniston cottage commands awe-inspiring views of Wetherlam and the Langdale Pikes and has character beams and a wood burning stove - perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine in the evening. From the stable door in the kitchen, you can observe the daily farm activities and get to meet the friendly farm dogs, whilst outside there is a patio area at the front and from the rear you can take in the breathtaking views and scenery as you sit on the picnic bench and cook your dinner on the barbecue. With walking and mountain biking available from the door of this Coniston cottage, as well as many other water based activities available on Coniston Water, this is a perfect destination for those wishing to enjoy the Lake District. Why not take a walk up the fell to Black Crag, an excellent view point as noted by Alfred Wainwright in his guide to the Lakeland Fells?
