The tiny, remote hamlet of Subberthwaite is located in the south western corner of the Lake District, in a quiet, undiscovered area between the mountains and the sea. Picturesque, with gently rolling pastures that meander down to the sea, this is a superb location from which to discover the many attractions in the area. This attractive hamlet makes an inspiring choice from which to further explore a magical heartland of silver lakes, lofty towering peaks and lonely heather clad moors. Nearby is Broughton-in-Furness, which dates back to the 11th Century and is today a thriving market town with a delightful market square, tall Georgian houses and an array of excellent pubs and restaurants. The Furness railway line runs from nearby Kirkby-in-Furness and makes for an ideal day out, travelling along the west coast of Cumbria. The area is blessed with beautiful views of Coniston Old Man, plus superb walking, mountain biking and climbing can be enjoyed on Coniston Old Man itself, on Wetherlam and within the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. Nearby Lowick Green boasts its own 14th century pub, renowned for its hospitality and fine local ales, whilst nearby Ulverston provides an excellent market, an array of old pubs and good restaurants. All the attractions of the National Park are within easy reach, including Coniston and Windermere, as is the beautiful Furness Coast with its golden beaches and good birdwatching opportunities.
