A superb base to explore this interesting and beautiful area, the historic village of Flookburgh is set near the shores of Morecambe Bay on the outskirts of the magnificent Lake District. Named after the locally caught Fluke fish, it was once a popular resting point for travellers crossing the sands from Lancaster and still provides a home for cockle and shrimp fishers. Facilities in the village include two pubs, a grocery, a chemist, butchers, a post office and two food outlets. The Cumbrian Coastal path passes nearby and a short walk away from the village is delightful countryside and views of the Bay and the Coniston mountain range. A few minutes’ drive or a pleasant off road walk leads to historic Cartmel, home of Sticky Toffee Pudding, with its beautiful Priory, popular race course, antique and gift shops, pubs and restaurants; including the Michelin Star rated L’Enclume. Just over a mile away you will find the beautiful house and gardens of Holker Hall and also nearby is the Edwardian resort of Grange, offering a range of hotels, restaurants and shops, a traffic free promenade, ornamental gardens and golf courses.

Previous visitors' comments about Saffron Cottage:
The cottage was absolutely fabulous. We thought it looked good from the pictures but it was even better in the flesh. The cottage was so well equipped with lots of thought to comfort throughout. From the moment we stepped through the door it felt like home. Perfect in every way - all the nice touches were well appreciated.
Mr Warrilow, Stoke-on-Trent, February 2012
The cottage was so lovely, everything was top quality. You could tell that a lot of thought had gone into the decor and furnishings. It was so warm, cosy and comfortable and it made the holiday for us.
