Hexham 17 miles.
Known as the 'Centre of Britain' this small market town is a great place from which to explore both Northumberland and Cumbria. Haltwhistle boasts a good range of shops and pubs - one of which, The Black Bull, is a real ale pub serving good food! There is an excellent leisure centre with heated open air swimming pool and cycle hire in the town, with pony trekking nearby. One of the best preserved stretches of Hadrian's Wall is only a mile to the north with various museums, forts and milecastles to be seen. There is even an ongoing 'dig' at the nearby site of Vindolanda. This truly is magnificent walking, riding and cycling country, with the Pennine Way and various bridleways and cycle routes passing rivers, forests, castles and of course, Hadrian's Wall. Visitors will enjoy this location in all weather and all seasons – a regular train and bus service from the town to Newcastle, The Metro Centre and Carlisle, means that you can leave the car behind and enjoy!

Haltwhistle was a perfect base for accessing the area & the property was lovely.

The location of the property is ideal, it is literally a 2 minute drive to beautiful country side of Hadrians Wall and river woodland walks of Allen banks. Everything you could need is a 2 minute walk i.e. shops, pubs, takeaways, etc. A beautiful property which I would recommend and certainly return to.

Superb apartment in an excellent central location in the main high street in Haltwhistle. A great base to explore the area but plenty to do on our doorstep as well - very good pub (The Black Bull) two minutes walk away and plenty of good local shops and eateries. Able to leave the car for a few days as there is a bus stop right outside, and a rail station only five minutes walk away, allowing easy days out to Carlisle and Newcastle.
Mr Bricklebank, Peterborough, October 2012
The accommodation was centrally located for all amenities with a good selection of shops within two minutes walk. We had a very warm welcome from the owners. It was close to all the places we wished to visit and we had a great time exploring local villages, towns and tourist sites. The locals were very friendly and helpful.
