The bustling market town of Settle lies at the south west rim of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, nestled beside the largest outcrop of limestone in Britain - a region of scars, cliffs, caves and potholes - amongst some of the most picturesque scenery in North Yorkshire. Tuesday is market day in Settle, when the square is filled with stalls offering a wide variety of crafts and goods. The market place is surrounded by local businesses, the centre being dominated by the Shambles, an historic 3-storey building with shops on two levels and houses above, and the Town Hall. There is a good selection of restaurants and pubs and a public swimming pool. The Victoria Hall is a cinema at weekends (Fri & Sat) and offers other activities such as folk nights throughout the year. The famous Settle-Carlisle Railway crosses some of the most beautiful and inspiring upland scenery in the country. Natural attractions such as Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are within easy reach, as are the nearby Dales towns of Skipton and Malham. Settle is in the midst of excellent walking country and is a good base for touring the Dales, the Lake District and the Forest of Bowland.

Previous visitors' comments about Well Cottage:
The owners went above and beyond to make my first time in Yorkshire one I will never forget! The cottage is beautiful, and located perfectly so that the town centre and countryside walks are just steps away from the front door. Everything you could need is there in the cottage, which is tastefully decorated, and the original features are stunning! I could not recommend it highly enough, particularly for those who love walking or who are looking for a romantic getaway! I will be back!

This cottage was cosy and comfortable and felt like home. It is so close to the shops, pubs and restaurants that no car is needed. The owner is lovely and provided lifts to and from the station. I will certainly stay here again.

We enjoyed the warm welcome we received and we liked the fact that it was so convenient for visiting the local area. The owners are a lovely couple and we hope to see them again in the future and we thank them.
