Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.
The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Terrington St. Clements 2 miles. This cosy and welcoming Terrington St. Clements cottage offers a well equipped kitchen, a four poster bed, and a private garden with wide open skies and far reaching views across the Fenland fields. The village has amenities including takeaways and pubs, while for gardeners there is an African Violet Centre. Previous visitors' comments about Sheppard's Hut:
The location was much better than we expected. The general countryside and villages were well cared for and local towns made interesting visits. Also, very friendly local folk and general lack of traffic.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The setting was great. We took our dog and she was able to have the run of the fields with the horses. We was able to feed the horses, it was a lovely surprise.
