With a lovely brook babbling literally a few yards away from the bedroom window and situated in a quiet village - it is such a peaceful getaway. However with just a 20 minute drive to Lincoln City and lots to do - like visiting the Castle and beautiful Cathedral or catching a show at the Drill in Lincoln - there’s something for everyone. We definitely recommend a stay in this property - you won’t be disappointed!

Our dog Jonty had the time of his life, outside all day every day and he made friends with a robin that visited in the morning. The locals in the pub were friendly and we went for a couple of hours each night. We visited Lincoln and several villages because hubbies ancestors are from there, Spilsby in particular, we found the church open and loved it, shame the gravestones are so weathered. We took our fairly large dog with us and the garden was big enough for her, she did enjoy looking out through the fence. I would say the fence isn't very high and she could have jumped over it had she wanted to so that would be something to bear in mind if you have an escape artist. Sarah and Murray were very friendly and keen to make sure we had everything we needed but didn't intrude in any way, sorry I missed visiting the garden but will visit again without doubt. We made use of the pub next door a couple of times, very pleasant sitting out in the beer garden with the dog and just wish they did food. We have never visited the area before and found everyone to be very friendly, plenty of dog friendly places to go and we were never stuck because we had a dog with us.

We’ve never stayed at cottage quite so close to a pub, a good pub for that matter. The cottage has all of the facilities we could have wanted and the owners were happy to chat when we saw them passing. Saying that, they were also happy to leave us be but were ready with local guidance should we need it. Please don’t let the proximity of the pub put anyone off this lovely cottage, the pub shuts at 8 every night so there is never any late night noise and the pub serves really good beer (no food so don’t expect to get fed) and the locals were so welcoming whenever we ventured in for an odd beer. In essence, a great little cottage, well equipped and a lovely spot to base yourself should you want to explore wider or just sit and enjoy the tranquility of rural Lincolnshire. We will definitely visit this cottage again in the future.

The property

The Barn is a former potato chitting barn, potatoes being a major crop in Lincolnshire.

It was for some time used as a garage, before being converted into a cottage. The original beams are retained, and double height in the lounge and bedrooms creates a feeling of spaciousness. There is an enclosed lawned garden, with plenty of walks suitable for dogs from the property and in the local area. The owners of The Barn have recently redecorated, added new carpets to both bedrooms, new beds, new lounge furniture, and a luxurious shower room. Brigg has a selection of supermarkets and independent shops and eating places, as well as a leisure centre and pool. Five miles away is Hemswell Cliff, a former RAF base now home to the largest collection of antique dealers in Europe.

(oh which Johnny Depp has also visited).

There are numerous historical RAF sites within the local area. Numerous animal parks within the local area. At Market Rasen there's horse racing and Willingham Woods, ideal for walking.

Skydiving at Hibaldstow. Lincoln offers interesting architecture, not just the cathedral, plus various shopping and eating places. The Lincolnshire Wolds, a site of outstanding natural beauty, features many walks to enjoy amid the splendid scenery. The nearest seaside, Cleethorpes, is about forty minutes drive away.

It offers extensive promenade walks. South of Cleethorpes are little unspoilt creeks and hidden beaches. In October and November, at Donna Nook beach, seals come ashore to give birth to their pups. The picturesque Georgian town of Louth features lots of independent shops and cafes. The attractive town of Barton-on-Humber offers extensive dog walking on the banks of the Humber. Plus numerous cafes including at The Ropewalk Gallery and the Waterside Nature Reserve. Over the Humber bridge is Hull, with several shopping centres and The Deep aquarium. .Whatever you decide, this is a charming location to accompany your peaceful getaway.
