The beautiful historic market town of Louth is the capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds. The town offers Georgian streets with Grade II listed buildings, St James Church, a theatre, art deco cinema, museum, golf course, modern leisure centre complex, excellent shopping, including weekly market days and a vast assortment of eateries catering for all tastes. Nearby is Cadwell Park, which plays host to car, bike and kart racing. The Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty features gentle rolling hills, quaint villages and superb cycling and walking routes. Just a short drive takes you to the coastal resorts of Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe and Sutton-on-Sea, plus Theddlethorpe Nature Reserve has miles of golden sandy beaches and amazing birdlife. Also for those interested in antiques Horncastle and Hemswell are nearby.

Within easy driving distance from this Alvingham cottage is the Georgian market town of Louth, known as the Capital of the Lincolnshire Wolds, offering a good selection of high street and independent shops along with traditional markets, which are held on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This Alvingham cottage is an ideal base for a romantic retreat at any time of the year.

We enjoyed Lincolnshire and visited some interesting places: Gainsborough Hall, Lincoln Cathedral and Castle, Alford Manor and windmill, Tattershall Castle, Gunby Hall, Cleethorpes and Gibraltar Point.
