  • "As expected this was a fantastic place to stay and enjoy Harlech."

Wonderful views, spacious and comfortable. Fortunately we were aware that the access road was steep and narrow and luckily we did not to meet anything coming the other way. If we had been left instructions to put out the bins they would have been emptied.

  • "Lovely location and those views are just beautiful, castle, sea and mountains."

The house it’s self is nice, clean just looking a bit tired in areas. Could do with some seating outdoors on the back so you can sit out with the full view. There is A great table on the side still with lovely views though. It is a very steep hill up to the house, I think in the instructions it said turn at the tourist information, but that seems to have gone, so you turn at the curry house. We would stay again, Thankyou

  • "Spacious comfortable house with lovely views."

Harlech has a beautiful four mile beach but unfortunately it has become a ghost town in the evenings. Don’t go expecting to have meals and drinks out in the evenings without getting in your car and driving for miles It’s a shame.

  • "Nicknamed the ugly house before our arrival."

..all is forgiven!!! We were warm, comfortable and mesmerised by the view. Perfect for my little dog, surrounded by dozens of footpaths and bridleways, she loved it too. So easy to get to Portmeirion, the steam railways, Snowdonia and even Caernarfon. The house is a little tired and although spotlessly clean, other than pots and pans, we are already recommending it to family and friends and talking about doing it again. I live just outside Cardigan and my boys travelled up from Kent, for a much deserved break. My husband, and the boys father, died just 6 weeks ago and this break was the perfect tonic for us....our only complaint is that we have to go back to the real world now.

  • "This is the 3rd time we've stayed at the Villa now."

It's a great location and the views from the house are amazing. Everything was great other than a couple of things: Strong smell of oil from the oil tank inside the house this time - bedroom above the garage the worst but quite a smell elsewhere in the house too. I think it was filled up whilst we were there, not sure if that's got anything to do with it. Also the boiler timer seemed to be set differently to last time we stayed at Easter (for the hot water as heating was off) and came on around 6/6.30am a couple of mornings - it's an incredibly noisy boiler in cupboard on landing and woke me up.

  • "The views over Harlech castle towards the sea are incredible."

The property is in a great location. It has a good amount of parking. The living space down stairs is a good size. The two larger bedrooms and the lounge have fantastic views. The garden is lovely. However: - the property was quite dirty on arrival. We filled the vacuum cylinder from the lounge rug alone when we had to vacuum on arrival! Some of the kitchen items needed washing before use. - Parts of the finishing are tired. For instance the second bedroom carpet is threadbare with no underlay. Lots of the floorboards creak. There is only one front door key provided. All of the kitchen knives are blunt. There isnt a complete set of matching crockery. The indicator lights on the cooker dont work. There is no booklet provided with info such as what to do with rubbish. - The property is not suitable for young children: A stairgate can't be fitted to the bottom of the stairs and the stairs are open so a child can fall over the side. This is not shown in the property photos The stair gate provided for the top had rusted through the metal joints. The owner did quickly provide a replacement when we told them but the stair opening is narrower than a standard door so a standard stairgate does not fit. This left the staircase very dangerous for our infant. The high chair is very old and dirty. Parts of it are broken (for instance the securing pins for the legs to attach to the chair, and the restraining strap is incomplete). There are several dangerous flooring areas for young children (for instance broken sharp tile edges in the bathroom, sharp unfinished edges of tiles, broken parts of the laminate flooring) The bedroom wardrobes are in two loose separate (top and bottom) parts so a child could pull the top half over. They are also not secured to the wall. The bathrooms are so small that its very difficult to fit an adult and a child in at the same time. Unfortunately the issues above mostly affecting children limited our enjoyment of what could easily be an outstanding property.

I'm sorry that your stay at the house was not all it could have been, from your point of view. You have raised a number of issues in your feedback, none of which have been highlighted before, by any of our previous guests, many of whom have stayed with children of all ages. I am always grateful to guests who highlight any issues they have had and will always do my best to tackle those issues when it is within my power to do so as I tried to do when I immediately ordered the new stair gate after you had been in touch with your concerns. I wasn't made aware that the new gate did not fit the opening at the top of the stairs so I was assuming that all was well with the replacement. I will obviously replace the gate with one that fits asap. The layout of the staircase does mean that a stair gate cannot be fitted at the bottom of the stairs and I will make sure that Sykes try to include a photo of this area so that parents of young children are made aware of this and the gap between the bottom section of the staircase and the window area next to the front door. I am not expecting parents to be allowing very young/children/infants to be allowed onto the staircase unsupervised of course and it is very easy to keep young children contained in the downstairs open plan living area, by closing the 2 doors which lead into the hallway and access to the staircase. I will make sure that the high chair is replaced as soon as possible and new kitchen knives are purchased, although I do believe there is a knife sharpener in the kitchen drawer which is available for guests to use. The winter months are always the time when we have the time to carry out maintenance to the property and we will have a list of items which need to be addressed at the end of the season which cannot be dealt with during the busy summer period because of the time they take to fix eg. Broken floor tile (which is covered by a bath mat in the bathroom), new carpet etc. I have spoken to my cleaning team, who are excellent, about your comments. As I'm sure you will appreciate, it is very difficult to comment on this further without any evidence and I would urge future guests to photograph any evidence of poor cleanliness when they arrive and forward those pictures to me immediately so that I can respond as soon as possible. The standard of cleanliness was excellent and the views were amazing. The only problem was the WiFi which we had consistent issues with throughout the week, potentially due to a fault on the line or router which needs addressing.

Its spacious and the views are absolutely stunning, we watched some lovely sunsets from the terrace. It was also perfect for our dog as the terrace is gated off. There was plenty of luving space which meant we could all lay out and relax (4 adults). Yes the road is a bit steep and theres not much going on in harlech but we has no issue driving about doing trips to criccieth and barmouth. We could have easily stopped another week and the neighbours were chatty and friendly

  • "Holiday started off badly when owner told us we had to take our own bed linen (king size, double and 4 singles) + towels with us."

Apparently there was issue with cleaners so suddenly became our problem somehow. Had to pack this in an already over packed car. Offered a £50 refund which was a bit of a joke given the hassle. Nice enough house up a very steep road. Could do with better outdoor furniture rather then just a wooden table + bench that would be better in a pub beer garden. Seats to relax on or move around would be better. Harlech itself is nice although not a huge amount to do.

The villa is situated in an ideal location, with the castle and the steepest street in the world literally down the road. The view from the living room and upstairs bedroom is breathtaking! And Harlech beach is one of best beaches we have been to, miles of sandy shore. The owner responded very promptly to all my inquiries and the neighbours are extremely friendly and helpful. All in all we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend this property.

  • "Feedback Great accommodation."

.....everything we could possibly need was available. The rooms were all bigger than they appeared on the photos, furnished with lovely chunky rustic wooden furniture, including the comfy beds. Wonderful views of the sea and castle from the lounge and two biggest bedrooms. Great dog safe fenced patio area accessed from the back door......the garden would have been safe too if our dogs were bigger. Note for the owners I appreciate our holiday was at the end of the season and it was a big house to 'turn around' between bookings, but the cleanliness is our only negative comment. Looking at the en-suite we joked that the cleaner must be about 4ft 11inches tall because you could actually see how high up the cleaning had been done! This is meant as constructive criticism as cleaners must be being paid and I feel they could be doing a better job for you.

Cannot describe how steep the hill is to gain access to the house, (not for the faint hearted). Neighbour to the property very nice. We managed to fit 4 adults and 5 children in very easily. Harlech itself is perfect but not ideal for pushchairs or wheel chairs as we couldn't find a footpath anywhere and hills very steep. Within 1 hour of all snowdonia attractions. All of which we thoroughly enjoyed. Property has the most wonderful view as well.

The house coped wonderfully with 6 adults and 2 children. There was always hot water when we needed it and the big cooker/oven made cooking for everyone a breeze. The views of the castle and out to sea are truly spectacular, something you could never tire of. Harlech itself has enough little shops & cafés to keep you comfortable and the house is equidistant between Barmouth & Porthmadog when you need more. All in all a brilliant holiday home in a great location.

A rare thing indeed. I would make it clear to potential clients that being you are located on top of a steep hill where superb views are afforded, this does mean anyone hiring this villa and taking their car should realise that it can be a tricky and even nervy time reaching the property from the foot of the castle hill. The last stretch in particular where the road is narrow, corners are sharp and the gradient very steep.
