  • "Brilliant stay here last week."

Owners are welcomeing. Was nice to be able to have a cuppa soon as we walked in. Welsh cakes and milk was left for us. Great idea leaving dog bowls in the cottage as we left ours at home by mistake. Everything you needed was there. Plenty of cups, plates. Even a flask in the cupboard. Lovely views. Thank for a wonderful stay. Would definitely book again in the future.

Well, when we got inside the cottage, it was so well equipped you really just needed to bring a toothbrush and shampoo. The location itself is very remote, beautiful and peaceful with it the owners were extremely accommodating. We even had our own stable to put our motorbikes in …. We had a few good days, but a couple of days with miserable weather, but it didn’t dampen the whole experience. We all enjoyed it and would highly recommend and I’m definitely looking forward to going back.

Such a beautiful clean, well presented cottage, which had everything we could possibly need, it was peaceful and tranquil with stunning scenery,. We received a friendly, warm welcome from the owners on arrival and also some delicious Welsh cakes. There was plenty of lovely walks for our 3 dogs and also a secure garden area to sit out in. The surrounding countryside was breathtaking, with magnificent views from the cottage. We also visited the Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, which was definitely worth the visit. Would have loved to have stayed longer as 2 days wasn’t long enough, would 100% recommend if you want a beautiful, quiet location, with amazing wildlife and stunning scenery.

The house itself is very comfortable and spacious, has all of the equipment and facilities you could possibly need, and was absolutely spotless when we arrived. There is a small detached garden with stone table and benches, with a stunning view over the valley below. There are nice walks directly from the property along well marked trails (although be careful of some of the paths on the OS maps, as they have clearly not been updated for a very long time!) The host family gave us complete privacy, but are super friendly and helpful, and made us (a couple with four pets) feel very welcome. We greatly enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Halfen.

The owners have thought of everything. Underfloor heating was lovely. Location was brilliant for us to escape and enjoy some downtime. Little garden is separate to the cottage but only a stones throw away. Great to sit in while pets mooch and children play. Benches and barbecue in the garden to have your own outdoor dining. Location is quite a car ride from main shops, so would advise to take breakfast and food supplies with you if you plan to do your own cooking. Pubs to eat are a car journey away. Cupboard in kitchen is stocked with basics - salt, pepper, gravy granules, oil, stock cubes - all for use. You just need to take your main ingredients. Pots, pans, crockery, baking utensils all provided. The owners and caretaker are very welcoming and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. Great base if you are a walker with plenty of information provided with suggested walking routes. You have to stay here to appreciate what is offered. We will be returning.

The house is very well equipped everything you could need in the kitchen including a slow cooker. The beds were comfortable and having an upstairs loo as well as a bathroom downstairs was very useful. The views from the garden are spectacular. A really good selection of dvds which were changed between rentals due to covid. Unfortunately due to covid leaflets have been removed, so do some research before you go. Also be aware if coming from welshpool that the road is very narrow and steep.

  • "If you're looking for a quiet and very comfortable place amidst the rolling hills of mid-Wales, do book the Halfen Granary -- you won't be disappointed."

We (two adults and two children) had a lovely stay here, just after lockdown ended and holiday cottages like this reopened. The lodge itself is nicely appointed, with a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable furniture, etc. But the real pleasure is the setting: near enough to villages that getting groceries isn't too annoying, but far from any major roads or towns, situated in beautiful farmland. Each evening, we would sit on the balcony attached to the master bedroom and look out over the hills and pastures; at night, there was no road noise at all, just the bleating of sheep and an occasional cow. The sky was pitch-dark. Our kids also loved running around in the enclosed garden (which adjoins the fields). The hosts were very pleasant and accomodating, and have adapted well to the "new normal" -- e.g., although they had removed all the loose-paper handouts (maps, tourist brochures, etc) that would have been there before, they had laminated a selection of these and cleaned them prior to our arrival. Similarly, though they had removed many of the books and games that would have been in the house before Covid-19, they gave us a complete list of what was available on request (and had a smaller, rotating selection of books, movies, etc stocked for us). During the days, we typically lounged around the house in the morning and did little excursions -- Powis castle, the Llanfair Caereninion railway, etc -- in the afternoon. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would return in an instant.
