  • "(This was sent on our first day - no one replied and we were able to cope, but quite unhappy especially with the heating."

) My husband Dr Geraint Jones booked this cottage as he needs to consult documents at th National Library. He says you have left him a voice mail asking if everything is ok here? I’m afraid this property does not meet with the high standards we’ve come to see as norm for your company. 1.heating problems It was warm when we arrived (7pm ) but by 8.30 the heating had gone off! An early night, we thought. The heating came on inthe night ( about midnight I think) but has not come on at all, all day today - I chose to stay here and have had to put the electric fire on. There is a note on the boiler ‘please do not touch the boiler’ otherwise i’d have tried to do something! 2.There is a lack of basic communication on facilities here- -no info on when (if!) heating is timed to work; -I had to look on line to empty the dryer’s water tank; -two differing internet access Instructions; (There is however excellent information available on the area and locsl amenities). -I put a light on and the circuit fuse blew! Fortunately there was a torch and stepladder and i managed to find the fuse box- again this was scarey as we’d read that there was no one available to phone in evenings….and maybe this possibility needs covering in the info ? Especially for the elderly 3. This was to be mentioned in feedback, but as i’m writing now, here goes: This property needs TLC - even if it is shared by three letting agencies- someone should have noticed these bad points: -Shower has mould growing - oven gloves are ancient and frayed - table\ pot tricket / toaster are marked with age - the sieve is rusted - one kitchen door has no handle -Toilet roll holder defunct These individually could be ignored - put them all together and it suggests carelessness - a term i didn’t think to be one of Sykes’ mantras. 4.Lighting There are six table lamps in the lounge, so upon finding only one of the three ceiling lights working ( my husband has poor eyesight and needs good light to read) I went round the table lamps- only two had working bulbs, and one was damaged. Again, as a general point of action- could you ask owners to provide spare bulbs and check the lighting ? This could be a safety issue. ( i did search for spares). We are here until Monday, and i can only hope thatr the heating comes on at some time later today…. Definitely not your best, although the house is clean and well equipped. Dr Geraint Jones and Jina PS - there is food left in the property - tins, sugar ( opened) cooking spray - i thought this was no longer PC for lettings post Covid?

Thank you very much for your comments and for taking the time to let us know your thoughts, we appreciate you highlighting the issues encountered during your stay. Sadly, we didn't receive your email. Guests' experience is very important to us and to that end, we carried out a first morning courtesy call and left you a message asking if you had arrived safely and settled in and advised you to call us if you needed any help during your stay. We didn’t hear from you which is unfortunate as we would have been more than willing to help. There are two telephone numbers provided in the travel details email as well as the property folder – one is for our office and the other is our 24 hour out of hours emergency number. As explained in the same email sent out to you prior to your stay, Britannia Cottage has had a brand new heating system installed and to regulate the heating to your desired temperature, you simply alter the thermostat is in the sitting room. We are unsure what you mean by the property being shared by three agencies. I confirm it is let by one agency through various channels. We have passed on your comments regards the kitchen items to the housekeeping team for their attention. We always try our best to make sure our guests' stays are as comfortable as possible and are sorry that this break didn’t meet your expectations. Property Owner

  • "Good value accommodation."

Plenty of space for the four of us. Busy main road was never an issue. Very handy garage and convenience store just down the road. Pebble beach a two minute drive away. Three nights of the week the hot water ran out which had corrected itself by morning. Might want looking at. Overall very satisfied.

  • "No DVD player, no terrestrial tv channels, there is a smart tv with other options but limited."

There is a lack of pans (no frying pan), crockery and glasses look in need of replacement lots of missing pieces and some cracks and chips. The bedrooms would benefit from blackout blinds and all windows adjusting so the seals fitted this would reduce the road noise. The cottage is very spacious and clean and did what we wanted for our week. The beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding. We had a lovely comfortable week.

  • "Very mis-leading information."

The cottage is hardly 'set back' off the road. It is on a busy main road & the road noise is constant day & night. The garden is to the side of the property & not enclosed. The view from the back is a 6ft fence. House is dated & requires some improvement work. However, beds are comfortable if not creaky & soft towels are provided. Cleaning could be better. Didn't want to use cupboards. Village is pretty & a good base to get about from. Have stayed in much nicer properties with Sykes.

We had a relaxing holiday here with lovely local walks. It is situated close enough to visit other towns and villages by car. The cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing break.

  • "We had a fabulous holiday, cottage was exceptionally clean, lots of extras, & great amenities and very spacious."

Comfy beds, excellent shower and great WiFi My only disappointment was the location. When you click on the cottage the second photo is a beautiful view which we assumed was part of the cottage, imagine our disappointment when the view was a very busy main road at the front and a six foot wooden fence almost against the back windows. The garden was situated next door. I think this has to be explained in the description. It is deceptive to have that photo in between the sitting room and bedroom photos.

  • "Toaster old and only 2 slice needs replacing, not good for house that sleeps 5."

Double duvet on king size bed and double duvet folded in half on single beds, feel sorry for anyone sleeping in single bed with two layers of 9 tog. Bedroom very light, street lights outside and curtains thin. Welcome pack out of date, wrong Wi-Fi code, no info about dates for rubbish collection. House clean and beds comfy. Local pub good.

  • "Although at first I was disappointed at the location (close proximity to the road etc) but it was all fine."

The cottage itself was very clean and very well equipped. White bedding and towels added to the comfort as they were spotless. In a very convenient distance to Aberystwyth, which was quite useful on few occasions. Drivable distance to lovely beeches managed by National Trust: Penbryn and Mwnt near Cardigan. Good walking paths near Mwnt as well. Spend good few hours in an absolutely stunning Dinefwr Park with a nice small walk to the castle on the top with beautiful views. Magic of Life Butterfly House was a unique experience, which was voted as the top attraction by the kids. Vale of Rheidol Railway is also worth a try, give yourself some time to be able to explore Devil's Bridge. Aberaeron is a charming place to have a walk around and grab some delicious food. The beech near the house is not very attractive as covered in stones and on the caravan park site but good enough for an evening walk . Overall we had lovely time and really enjoyed the cottage.

Good position to visit places such as Aberystwyth and Aberaeron, beach is a walk away. Not brilliant beach for access with small car park and lots of pebbles to cross, but once on the beach it was great. Village is lovely and everyone was very friendly. Cafe by bridge was fantastic, very good pizzas.

About the location

LLANRHYSTUD

Aberaeron 7 miles; Aberystwyth 9 miles.

Llanrhystud is a charming village in Mid-Wales on the west coast, with three rivers, Carrog, Wyre and Wyre Fach, all meeting to flow into the sea through this quaint settlement. The area surrounding the Grade II listed church, St Rhystud's Church, is now a conservation area, with the village enjoying beautiful rural views as well as a shingle beach. Llanrhystud beach is great for swimming and general watersports, whilst holding views over the lovely Cardigan Bay. Pick up all you need from the local convenience store and garage, or head to the pub which serves classic dishes when you don't feel like cooking. An 18-hole golf course can be enjoyed on a pleasant day, while riding schools and a farm park are not far away and are great for entertaining the little ones. The Wales Coastal Path runs through the village and presents a fantastic way to experience the rugged coastline of Wales, enjoying pitstops at other coastal villages along the way, such as Aberaeron, a delightful Georgian fishing town which still retains its character and charm, head to the harbour and take a boat trip to see the glorious landscape from the coast and discover Cardigan Bay's marine life before sitting down in one of the several eateries.
