Location: Hengoed

Oswestry 3 miles; Ellesmere 8 miles; Shrewsbury and Chester 20 miles.

The peaceful rural hamlet of Hengoed stands close to the historic border town of Oswestry, the famous village of Whittington (birthplace of the first Lord Mayor of London) and the delightful town of Ellesmere, known as Shropshire's Lakeland because of its nine meres (or lakes). Close by is the original Old Oswestry, the site of a spectacular Iron Age Hill Fort, while today the town offers many historic buildings and a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. Ellesmere is also steeped in history; the town is home to the lovely Church of Saint Mary, with its 15th century roof and Thomas Telford was based in the town while building the Shropshire canal. There are a variety of shops, good pubs and restaurants and an abundance of entertainment on and around the nine lakes, which surround the town. Stroll through Cremorne Gardens, enjoy fishing and sailing or explore Colemere Country Park with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks. This whole area has something for all ages and tastes.

Previous visitors' comments about Little Beeches:

A fantastic welcome from the owner of the property. The beds were the best I've slept in, I'm a poor sleeper but didn't stir all night! Everything clean and tidy and of a very high standard.
Mrs Long, New Milton, October 2012

The cottage was well placed for all the places we wished to see. There was a great number of leaflets on places to visit which were very helpful. The cottage was lovely and in a peaceful location and great for a relaxing holiday. The garden was beautiful, very colourful with a lovely variety of birds visiting it.
Mrs Wright, Eastbourne, July 2012

The position of the cottage and the cottage itself were excellent. The owner who lived next door was very welcoming and helpful. It was the best cottage we have stayed in.
Mrs Birch, Sheffield, June 2012

I lived in the area until moving to Luton after army service in 1959. It was an ideal base to revisit old places and friends after 50 odd years and the owner could not have done more to make us welcome - especially with the welcome goodies in the fridge!
