The barn was very well equipped and even with 11 of us + 3 dogs we still had plenty of space. Mr & Mrs Jones were so friendly, accommodating and helpful - they could not have made us feel more welcome offering us fresh eggs and advice on where to go. The only very small negative would be the mattresses on the beds could do with replacing. But a small price to pay for such a wonderful holiday house / location.

It was superbly clean and cosy, ideal for the big group of us and our 3 dogs. Not to mention that the owners went above and beyond to help us when my car broke down on the first day! We accidentally left a few bits behind and they sent it straight to us. The owners and their 3 collies are a delight and we enjoyed getting to meet their dogs too! The hot tub was cleaned every morning for us and each bedroom/bathroom was stunning. Our needs were catered for perfectly too, especially considering we also had two babies with us. We would happily stay here again, hopefully next time with a more reliable car to take us home! When we return to Wales we would definitely seek to stay in this property again. There were lots of walking trails and sights nearby, and plenty of excursions only a short drive away. My only advice would be to bring as much food with you as you can, as the nearest supermarkets are about a 30 minute drive away. Thanks again for a perfect holiday, it was our first time in Wales and we will definitely be back!

Wasn't able to use the hot tub due to this. Had to cook and boil water on the fire in the back room. Not a good experience at all

We are sorry that Storm Arwen caused unprecedented and widespread power cuts across the UK to millions of people, including most of North Wales, during your visit. We worked hard to ensure you had enough fuel for both log burners (including the wood-powered stove in the snug), a generator supplying electricity as soon as we realised the power was off on Saturday morning (albeit like most generators, it is not powerful enough to heat a large body of water like a hot tub which, you did not mention, was fine and in full use on Friday evening) and cooked your party a large meal on the Saturday evening with very little thanks from your party. The area was stunning, the cottage is extremely spacious and has excellent facilities on offer. The hot tub was brand new prior to our arrival and was a must at the end of each day beneath the stars looking out at the valley. The hosts were very friendly, helpful and made excellent recommendations during our entire stay. The walk out of the house and up to the reservoir was beautiful and a perfect morning walk for our two spaniels - watch out for all the pheasants! While they do tell you you are on a working farm, it may need to be made clearer that you are in the hub of the working farm with the farmers house, working dog kennels and equipment around you. While this wasn’t an issue during our stay as we quite liked to see the ongoing work, it was a bit of a surprise to us as the listing did make it seem as if we were in a more remote location.

The dining table was great for gathering around for our evening meal. Upstairs the 5 bedrooms were more than adequate for our group - 2 were ensuite and the main bathroom had a lovely roll top bath and large walk in shower. The barn is located in a very remote area at the end of a 2 mile single track lane. This suited us perfectly as it was lovely to get away from everything and be surrounded by beautiful countryside. Very nice and secluded location. Great size of the cottage easily accommodating 10-12 people, very comfy and cosy. We would definitely be looking to book it again next year

The owners are so helpful and provided a Christmas Tree for us, which really made our stay. The hot tub was the icing on the cake. The house is so clean and warm with under floor heating and comfortable beds.

Plenty of space for a big party in the house, which is absolutely immaculate ! My boyfriend & I drew the lucky straw and stayed in the family room which is just stunning, with its own walk in wardrobe! (however feel like I was in a disco as the lights flickered in there :D ) No complaints at all & will return for sure in the nearby future!!! Thank You for a lovely stay

  • "We loved every aspect of our stay at y sgubor, from the beautifully restored barn conversion to the stunning views from all around."

We walked from the doorstep and were right in the heart of the countryside. We found the location excellent being close enough to enjoy Snowdonia but closer to the cottage was lovely walks, waterfalls and a town nearby with good amenities. The owners were brilliant, from the local information they sent prior to arrival to help us plan our stay to being on hand to help (without invading our privacy). We can't wait to come back, thank you for a fabulous holiday.

About the location

LLANGYNOG

Bala 13.2 miles; Shrewsbury 32.4 miles

The pleasant village of Llangynog lies in breathtaking countryside amidst the beautiful Berwyn Mountains and surrounding wooded hills and valleys. The area has a history of lead, silver and slate mining dating back to the 17th Century but today it is a renowned location for climbing, birdwatching, walking and cycling, with famous mountain bike trails near Dolgellau, and a mountain bike centre at Llandegla. Llangynog boasts two pubs, both of which serve good food and are perfect to relax in after an exciting day out, plus on the outskirts of the village is a down hill mountain bike centre. There is also an off road motorbike experience, which is set on a 1500 acre site further up the valley which needs to be booked in advance. Enjoy Lake Bala, a wonderful beauty spot, with excellent fishing, a variety of water sports including white water rafting and a lakeside steam railway, or visit Lake Vyrnwy, which has an RSPB centre, bike hire and a sculpture park. Also within easy reach is Llanrhaeadr Waterfall, the tallest single drop waterfall in England and Wales. This is a beautiful part of the country and is perfect for touring the rest of North and Mid Wales and even Shropshire.
