Brynafon Country House Cottages

A cluster of cottages converted from the historic Brynafon Country House, offering cosy and comfortable accommodation each with its own character, set adjacent to the owner’s home just a short walk from the bustling market town of Rhayader. Surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains with various walks emanating from the town and the River Wye, these delightful cottages are ideal for family, friends or small groups looking to get away for riverside walks, wildlife spotting or fishing. In addition the magnificent 72 acres of the Elan Valley Estate with its lakes and Victorian dams open up wonderful days out, and you may take the opportunity to enjoy one of the special events celebrating their International Dark Sky Park status. Alternatively enjoy one of the many great places to eat in the popular market town of Rhayader, just a short walk from the cottages. There is fabulous walking with a myriad of circular walks, cycling, fishing and horse riding all nearby. These characterful cottages are comfortably furnished with modern interiors with well-appointed kitchens, electric oven and hobs, dining areas, comfy seating to help you relax and enjoy the open plan living areas, plus they have TVs and WiFi. Llandrindod Wells, a Victorian Spa town, 10.5 miles away, is a popular centre for cyclists, boasts a popular golf course and is ideal for those looking to soak up the ambience of a bygone era with its lovely formal parks and the chance to ‘take the waters’. Just an hour’s drive to the north, you can spend the day exploring a piece of the past in the magnificent National Trust’s Powis Castle. Llandrindod Wells 10 miles; Aberystwyth 34 miles.

Rhayader is a small Welsh market town with a selection of tea rooms, pubs, restaurants, amenities and unique little boutiques, including local antiques. An added bonus of a leisure centre with a large swimming pool and a weekly livestock market. The Red Kite Feeding Station, on the outskirts of the town is a great attraction not to be missed. Rhayader is the first town on the River Wye and is home to the spectacular dams and reservoirs of the Elan and Claerwen Valleys. The Elan Valley offers a variety of walks and cycle trails (cycle hire is available in Rhayader), as well as a visitor’s centre with café and children's play area. Further up the valley is the traditional Penpont House tea rooms. This area is known as the Wildlife Centre of Wales, with its amazing variety of nature reserves open for visitors to enjoy. There is also pony trekking available in the area. Visit Builth Wells, where the Spring Festival, Royal Welsh Agricultural Show and Winter Fair are all held annually. Alternatively, a scenic drive will take you to the Welsh coast 34 miles away.
