  • "The property has no WiFi at all or mobile signal so personally this is not only unsafe if you need to make a call but means no way to use entertainment online."

Reported a gas smell, took three days to respond. Asked for help pre arrival for nearest electric charging point to get a response we are in the middle of the countryside and no guidance. For reference one 3.1 miles away and one 9 miles away. Furniture tired, grub and seating even has nails protruding out of the seat. Owner doesn’t respond to messages when you need help. Had scary incident, dismissed again by owner, at 01:30 of someone watching our cars. We left properly early. Skyes and owner didn’t help us at all.

The location was ideal just 5 minutes from Rhayader and the Elan valley. Plenty of space to park and a lovely terrace to sit out on and take in the views. We would certainly return there.

  • "The house was lovely, the setting is beautiful with plenty of space for 6 people."

The pool table and conservatory are lovely and we used both every day. We would suggest a few quality of life updates, places to put things in the bath rooms, hooks/rails is a must. The shower rooms must of recently been updated and are lovely places to be apart from very little places for clothes, towels etc apart from the floor. The bathroom on the other hand could do with the same treatment as the shower rooms. The reason for the low comfort score was the mattresses and pillows. All of us just didn't get on with them. I understand the house is not a hotel or anything like that, but some more comfort with the beds would be appreciated and would of improved the overall experience. Over really we had a great time.

  • "Very spacious property and a nice quiet location."

A few negatives though. Wifi very hit and miss. Only area where dogs can be left unattended was the small patio area. Pets are not allowed upstairs in the house (there is a gate on the bottom of the stairs to prevent this). Property was absolutely inundated with flies (we had to but fly papers for each room). The lack of a larger secure area for the dogs to exercise would prevent us tenting this property again.

A rare find to be baby friendly, dog friendly and facilities to socialise with friends too. Only a few minutes drive from town with welcoming pubs and amenities, we also visited Elan Valley, Devils Bridge and Aberystwyth so well located to explore also. We would definitely look to book again!

  • "The property was exactly how described however there were a few points to highlight."

The draft through the French doors in the living room was really bad (you could see day light and the blinds were blowing), there was also a vent behind the TV which caused the room to be cold. We had asked if there would be Christmas decorations as we were staying for the Christmas week- we were slightly disappointed with the tree and 3 pieces of tinsel. The tvs had terrible signal and only had a minimal amount of stations and the Internet was not very good at all. It would also have been better if we were left more than a quarter of a basket of logs- you do expect more for the cost of the holiday. This all said we had a lovely family holiday and the cottage was very clean.

. however it's not suitable for dogs ... no gate on the drive which is shared with the neighbour from hell ... ie. He will watch you and your dogs every move..he drives very slowly past the veranda forwards and backwards several times a day .. this was such a shame as we had amazing weather and needed to relax on the gorgeous veranda and observe the majestic red kites.

Lovely little hamlet with beautiful views. Clean comfortable house with plenty of room and en suites to every bedroom and downstairs shower n extra WC a bonus. I'm disabled but managed the stairs. Steps outside property could be a problem for those with mobility problems but they are not steep so could be managed with assistance. Owner very friendly and extremely helpful. Would go again if garden fenced off so it would be safer for dogs.

Well equipped & plenty of room for everyone and loved having our own en suite bathrooms .Beautiful area and very peaceful. Only negatives for us were it was a small fridge for the amount of people it caters for-perhaps a drinks one behind the bar? Loved the roof garden but very steep steps and low handrail for everyone but especially the elderly guests. Also could benefit from extra fence as we were concerned the toddler would run/fall off. Welcome pack would have been appreciated especially as a bit away from shops. Just a nice gesture that doesn’t need to break the bank. Would definitely stay again though.

I had to empty the vacuum as it was full on arrival and blocked! When I vacuumed up again the hoover was so full of dogs hairs and dust had to empty again and these were not my dog hairs as I have a short haired dog! Bath leaked so could not use as it poured through the front room ceiling which was reported to the owner. I would say that the house is a little run down and needs a freshen up. I brought a Corkscrew as I couldn't open a bottle of wine on my last visit as the one there was broken I left it there for others to use and low and behold it is gone and the broken one remains!!! Description and Photos out of date no jacuzzi/bath Pictures are taken when property was in good condition. Is the security bond there for me to clean the house properly for the owner. Sorry would not recommend this property.

The property was as described but could do with some updating and maintenance. The kitchen worktop by the sink has swollen because it gets wet, some of the oven cooking trays and frying pan are a bit worn, the conservatory radiator on the right as you go in leaked when the heating was on and the other radiator didn't get warm, some of the taps drip and the floor in the main bedroom creeks very loudly. • "This is a lovely cottage in a peaceful and pretty location."

The cottage is large, clean and well furnished However, as noted in a previous review, the central heating only works for less than 50% of the ground floor area, making the large lounge area only useable late in the evenings after the electric fire has been on for a reasonable length of time and the conservatory unusable as a dining room. This meant that the five adults in our group all lived in the kitchen area, which, whilst reasonably large, only had four comfy chairs. Not ideal, or what was anticipated, especially as feedback 3 weeks earlier had identified this problem. We reported it to Sykes Cottages on our return, and I understand they are still waiting for communication from the owner a further 10 days on. In the summer, this shouldn’t be a problem, but on a cold and damp March week........ The upstairs rooms were all lovely and warm and comfortable with what seemed like unlimited hot water, each room having its own ensuite which is very handy. The location is very handy for walking, red kite watching and rides on the steam train between Devils Bridge and Aberystwyth. Good cafes and pubs serving food in Rhayader, and can thoroughly recommend the local butcher in the town!

  • "The living room was 64 degrees at 7 o’clock at night."

There was a 1200 watt fire in front of the fire shown in the picture on your web site that did not work. Only two of the three bars worked on the fire (800 watts). The heat given off by this fire did not heat the room. We had to spend the holiday in the kitchen to keep warm. We thus returned home a day early.
