Location: Llansilin

Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 6 miles; Oswestry 6 miles; Shrewsbury 24 miles.

Llansilin is an attractive, rural village which stands between the ancient English border town of Oswestry, and the Welsh village of Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, home to Pistyll Rhaeadr, the UK’s highest single drop waterfall. The sleepy village of Llansilin boasts a pub, a small community shop and the 13th century St. Silin Church, but is best known for being the main location of the successful 1995 film “The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain”. The whole area is surrounded by lovely countryside, which extends into the Berwyn Mountain Range - perfect for wonderful scenic walks and cycle trails, including along the Berwyn Ridge Pathway and through the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, known as “The Valley of Poets”. Visit the riverside town of Llangollen, Chirk and Powis Castles, Erddig and Attingham Park, or visit the nearby market town of Ellesmere, once described by Alan Bennet as ‘Shropshire’s Lake District’. Further afield lies the Welsh mountains and coast and picturesque Lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, while the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Medieval Shrewsbury and Roman Chester are also within driving distance. Llansilin is an ideal base for exploring Mid Wales, Shropshire and beyond.
