Location: Llansilin

Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 6 miles; Oswestry 6 miles; Shrewsbury 24 miles.

Llansilin is an attractive, rural village which stands between the ancient English border town of Oswestry, and the Welsh village of Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, home to Pistyll Rhaeadr, the UK’s highest single drop waterfall. The sleepy village of Llansilin boasts a pub, a small community shop and the 13th century St. Silin Church, but is well known for being the main location of the successful 1995 film “The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain”, as well as being the home of Sycharth, which was the site of Owain Glyndwr’s 14th century castle. The whole area is surrounded by lovely countryside, which extends into the Berwyn Mountain Range - perfect for wonderful scenic walks and cycle trails, including along the Berwyn Ridge Pathway, the Offa’s Dyke Path and through the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, known as “The Valley of Poets”. Visit the riverside town of Llangollen with the nearby Pontcysylle Aqueduct, a World Heritage Site, Chirk and Powis Castles, Erddig and Attingham Park, or visit the nearby market town of Ellesmere, once described by Alan Bennet as ‘Shropshire’s Lake District’. Further afield lies the Welsh mountains and coast and picturesque Lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, while the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, Medieval Shrewsbury and Roman Chester are also within driving distance. Llansilin is an ideal base for exploring Mid Wales, Shropshire and beyond.

Warm welcome and pretty toddler friendly.

The cottage was just right for 4 adults and 2 children, but still seemed cosy. Ideal position to tour into Wales and Shropshire with lots of activities within 45 minutes drive.
Mr Eagle, Dereham, October 2012

Lovely large cottage with added touches such as coffee, tea, milk & even wine!
