This wonderful beauty spot is referred to as “a lake for all seasons”. It is situated just south of Snowdonia between the Cambrian Mountains and the Berwyn range. It was originally a Victorian man-made reservoir with a stone-built damn built in the 1880’s being the very first of its kind. Today, this beautiful and popular retreat is a National Nature Reserve, SSSI and a renowned RSPB reserve boasting a huge variety of birds and wildlife. The lake has a circumference of 11 miles which is all surrounded by wonderful scenic countryside including the 6000 acre Dyfnant Forest which is perfect for exhilarating walks, bike rides, bird watching or simply relaxing while enjoying a picnic. The local village of Llanwddyn is very small and pleasant and provides a pub, cafes, RSPB shop and craft and produce outlets. From this lovely location you can tour all of Mid Wales, the magnificent Snowdonia National Park, Powis Castle and gardens and delightful Shropshire. This is a perfect year-round location.
