About the location

Braemar

Ballater 17 miles; Aberdeen 59 miles.

The village of Braemar in Royal Deeside sits amongst some of the most beautiful scenery Scotland has to offer. Nestling in the River Dee valley within the Cairngorms National Park, Braemar and the area around it are a treasure trove for the outdoor enthusiast, boasting 24 Munros in the area, the highest 18-hole golf course in the country and close proximity to the Glenshee Ski Centre. The village offers plentiful opportunities for relaxation as well in the many cafes, shops and restaurants. The famous Highland Gathering in September, a favourite of Queen Elizabeth, is a spectacular feast of highland games, music and dancing. Inverness, Aberdeen and Perth are a great day out, are accessed through great scenery, and are well worth a visit. Royal Deeside boasts many rare wildlife and plant species such as capercaillie, roe deer, red squirrels and golden eagles. With Braemar and Balmoral Castles and the Royal Lochnagar Distillery in this area, there is indeed something for everyone in this delightful part of Scotland.

Awesome location, friendly owners. Highly recommended.

Mr Davies, Birmingham, January 2014

The cottage was the best I had stayed in, and the surroundings very calm, quiet and relaxing. Everything was to the highest standard.

Mrs Thomas, Stoke-on-Trent, October 2013

I do not know which I liked best, the cottage itself, the hosts, or the location? All was better than great. The cottage was so warm and clean and inviting. All the modern kitchen amenities were there, including a dishwasher, there was also a bigger-than-normal refrigerator. The bed was really comfortable. The décor of the cottage was wonderful. The hosts were so friendly I know I have made friends for life. The location was perfect, about 300 steps to the village. The garden was full of flowers. If you ever read a negative review from anyone about the Castleton Cottage, just disregard it, they are outright lying. I will be going back next year. Thanks to the Castleton Cottage, my Braemar Highland adventure was amazing!

Miss McDonald, August 2013

A gorgeous little cottage in the middle of Braemar. Close to all amenities but very quiet! A mountain to the back with perfect views, lots of walks and mountain bike roads from the door - who could ask for more? The cottage was really cosy inside, and the log burning stove was really efficient, quickly heating the whole cottage. Once you were in the lovely cottage you really felt a million miles from anywhere.
