  • "My mum and I loved the location, the house and the secret garden."

There was an initial problem with the TV, but the owner came and sorted it promptly. However, in some respects, we were disappointed. After reading a previous review, we expected there to be a bulb in the landing light - there wasn't. This meant the bathroom light had to be on a lot of the time, for safety reasons. Only 2 downlighters worked in the kitchen, and this is a large space. Two bulbs were missing from the wall lights in one of the alcoves in the lounge, and, although this didn't impact our stay, but it just looks so unfinished. We have taken several short breaks in Wales this year, and, without exception, the basics were provided. However, there wasn't even a toilet roll in the bathroom, and the last thing we felt like doing was going out to the shop after just settling in. It perhaps needs to made clear in the information exactly what you need to bring, as I think basic provisions are now taken for granted. On the whole, we enjoyed our stay, but it would have been improved with just a bit more attention to detail.

  • "Park View Cottage is furnished really well and decorated in lovely neutral colours."

Extremely spacious. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, pots and pans etc. Master bed was very comfortable and the bedding was a touch of luxury. Just a few things to note/feedback: - it would be helpful/nice to have a small amount of coffee, tea and sugar provided. So that when you first arrive you could potentially make a hot drink -to provide a few bin bags and washing up liquid. It was a bit of a pain that we didn't have enough washing up liquid to wash up our crocks after dinner, on the day of arrival. We did do a small shop on the way to the cottage but didn't buy washing up liquid or bin bags, as we were only staying for 4 nights we thought that these will likely be provided -quite a few of the light bulbs were either missing or not working. The bulb from the upstairs landing was missed the most. It was a bit dodgy when carrying your child up the stairs in darkness. We had to leave the bathroom light on to illuminate the stairs -on the evening we arrived we found a large number of flies that had died and were laying on the upstairs landing and stairs. There were still a few buzzing around that evening but they must have also died by the following morning as there were more dead flies on the floor by then. This only happened the first night -the highchair was a bit grubby where the plastic had started to come away, just general wear and tare

  • "We loved the property but the parking situation wasn’t very good."

Being down a lane and having to park outside of the front window wouldn’t be so bad if you had a small car. We’ve an SUV and if we didn’t get back early we had no way of parking due to other cars already being parked and it being a small lane you couldn’t even reverse park into the space. We then had to drive round to try to find somewhere.

  • "We have stayed here before, lovely property in a lovely area."

The only suggestion I would make is a hose shower fitted to the tap outside to wash a dog down after a walk and a mop to clean the kitchen floor.

  • "We loved our stay at Park View Cottage, it's spacious and comfortable and was a lovely home to return to after a full day of exploring parts of North Wales."

The parking is a bit dodgy as the track that runs directly outside the cottage is rather narrow and trying to turn your car round to park can be a bit of a challenge at times! The secret garden is lovely and well thought out and would've been a nice place to sit in the evenings had we had the opportunity! Just a word of warning, whilst Afonwen is in an excellent location for exploring North Wales (Loggerhead National Park is just short drive away as is Prestatyn and Llanberis for Mt. Snowdon slightly further on), the village itself is tiny and for restaurants, pubs and takeaways you will have to try further afield. We found only a handful of places willing to deliver to the cottage and it was quite clear they had no idea quite how remote the location was! Having said that, Caerwys is a very short drive from the cottage and has a slightly larger selection of shops and a McDonald's and Subway too if need be. Also, there is a very lovely craft and antiques centre quite literally on your doorstep that does have a restaurant open till 5pm. The Eagle and Child Inn in Prestatyn is a very lovely pub, proper pub food at very reasonable prices, just take note that it sits at the top of Prestatyn mountain so the route to it from Prestatyn is an extremely steep one although driving from Afonwen is far less precarious! All in all, we loved our stay at Park View Cottage and we would love to return some day in the not too distant future.

The cottage is comfortable and has everything you need. The extra toilet downstairs is convenient. The nature reserve is close by and it’s a lovely walk (you can drive and park there). We visited Loggerhead Country Park during our stay which is a short drive away and worth a visit.. would definitely stay again.

Wales, Snowdonia, Chester and Liverpool. Nice quiet rural location in a beautiful setting at the foot of the hills. Cottage was beautifully decorated, cosy great WiFi and even an Xbox. Nice place to get away from busy city life but most bigger towns were about 30min drive away so easy to reach.

The location couldn’t be better, it is in an area of outstanding beauty and if you like walking will not disappoint. It has a nature reserve close by which is a lovely walk and definitely worth a visit. Caerwys is only a mile away for local shop and has a lovely cafe. There are some lovely walks just a short drive away and the nature reserve is on the doorstep. The craft centre is only across the way which has a lovely cafe. Unfortunately due to restrictions we could not visit a lot of places or eat indoors however still really enjoyed our stay.
