It has a very comfy bed and a super shower. We loved the mix of period features with the new. And big thanks to Gaynor for the Prosecco and roses, what a thoughtful generous touch!

  • "Lovely little cottage, very comfortable and clean."

Would love to know more about the history. Bit surprised at first that it was on such a busy road but soon got used to the traffic. We were also a bit disappointed that the walk to the town was along a main noisy road but then found, at the top of our road, the tow path along the canal which runs parallel to the main road and that was great. Peaceful with easy access to everywhere we wanted to go - town, walls, bus station, cafes along the waterside where you can sit and watch the barges and the world go by in peace without the noise of traffic. The holiday ticked all our boxes - thank you.

This is a lovely little cottage in Chester. Elv cottage is very well presented, very clean and well stocked with everything you need for a comfortable week away. The hot tub is an added bonus. Gaynor was extremely helpful, gave very good instructions on hot tub use and kept us informed when cottage was ready for our stay. Chester town centre is an easy walk away where there is lots to see and do. Train to Liverpool is cheap and run frequently, so worth a day trip. If we are back in Chester, I would certainly look to stay at Elv cottage.

Just about everything you could want for self-catering in the kitchen, from crockery to cutlery, to pots and pans. The island makes eating in the kitchen a must, as well as providing the luxury to sit down whilst cooking. A large size fridge and freezer means you have plenty of room to store fresh or frozen food at the right temperature. Those little must haves are in abundance - hooks on bathroom doors and by the hot tub to hang gowns and towels on, shelves in the shower cubicle to put requirements on, bedside tables, tables in sitting room for those relaxing drinks, etc. If anything is amiss, Gaynor is on hand almost immediately to put things right. She is also very open to receiving feedback as to how she could improve the cottage further. The hot tub in the sheltered garden is perfect and was well used. The cottage itself is on a busy road at times but within walking distance of Chester town centre, which can be reached by roadway or canal towpath. There is no carparking space with the cottage, but plenty of free, unrestricted parking on the road nearby. The position of the cottage does not detract from its suitability at a good price. We would definitely recommend a visit.

  • "We can’t rate this cottage highly enough."

It is superbly located to walk into Chester to see all the sights (and in the lead up to Christmas with the Christmas market, Cathedral etc, it is a magical place to be!) The cottage itself is charming and extremely well furnished. The lounge is really cosy complete with Woodburner which we made use of, the kitchen is ultra modern and very well equipped, the huge bathroom is stunning and the bedroom is beautifully furnished with a very comfortable bed. The hot tub was just the icing on the cake after a day out in Chester and it was fabulous to relax in it, gazing up at the stars on crisp cold nights. Perhaps what sets Elv cottage apart from other 5 star cottages is the owner, Gaynor. She was so accommodating with every aspect of our booking and nothing was too much trouble. You will not be disappointed if you book this cottage, we are already booked in for a return visit in December 2020!

We were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and well equipped the cottage was and, frankly, couldn't fault it in any way. The bottle of sparkling wine on arrival was a really nice little touch. The owners couldn't have been more hospitable and welcoming, yet remaining non-intrusive. A delightful place to spend a few days and well located for a short and easy walk into the city centre. Will definitely be booking to stay at this cottage again. Elv Cottage is absolutely wonderful, and fully equipped with everything that you might need no matter how long you might choose to stay. The cottage was exceptionally clean and bright, with a cosy feel, enhanced by the homely decor. We very much appreciated the coffee machine in the mornings. The well maintained and private garden with hot tub is a real asset and Gaynor provided comprehensive instructions regarding how everything worked and information about the local amenities. The cottage is also wonderfully placed to enjoy Chester for a romantic weekend away, next to the beautiful River Dee and a very short walk from a pub with welcoming staff and really exceptional views of the river. We were really quite touched by the pink fizz and the personalised postcard. I think this is a weekend away we will always remember, thank you very much Gaynor!

About the location

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
