Location: Llanberis

Caernarfon 7 miles; Bangor 10 miles; Betws-y-Coed 17 miles.

Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. In fact, Llanberis is something of a ‘mecca’ for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales. The ascent can be made either by train, on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Each year, major racing events attract thousands to the area: The fast Snowdon Race to the summit, held in July every year and The Snowdonia Marathon, held in October - a gruelling 26 mile course that starts and finishes in Llanberis, circumnavigating the Snowdon Massif. Within Llanberis itself there are excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 7 miles from Llanberis, on the coast, is Caernarfon with its magnificent castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn and Plas Newydd.

Previous visitors' comments about Carreg Galed:

We loved the cottages situation, so many places to visit in close proximity. The house was so cosy and warm to come back to after walking in the cold and wet. A large, well situated lounge suitable for the six of us in our party. We hope to come back in the spring.
Mrs Nash, Ross-on-Wye, November 2011

Great location made better by good weather and accommodation. The modern, generally well fitted out house was just what we needed for our party of 5 middle aged male fell walkers.
Mr Tuer, Carlisle, September 2011

It was our first booking with Sykes and it was simply great. The location and cottage were nice. We didn't miss anything. Thanks to the owner and the Sykes staff.
Mrs Zschech, July 2011

The location of the property was excellent. It is close to all amenities/attractions and to the main roads. There were more than adequate amounts of crockery/cutlery, which makes a welcome change when in a self-catering property. The decking area overlooked the mountains of Snowdonia, which were visible on a clear day.
