The small border town of Chirk stands on the escarpment above where the rivers Ceiriog and Dee meet and is referred to as “The Gateway to Wales”. Most famous for its magnificent 14th century castle and gardens, one of many built throughout Wales by Edward I, Chirk boasts a wonderful aqueduct, built by Thomas Telford, pleasant pubs, restaurants, convenience store, chemist, gift shop, an excellent golf course and marina. The surrounding area, notably the beautiful Ceiriog Valley described by Lloyd George as “a little bit of heaven on Earth”, provides wonderful walks, cycling including the famous Offa's Dyke Pathway, and local trout fishing. Only 5 miles from charming Llangollen and within easy reach of the scenic Horseshoe Pass and the medieval towns of Chester and Shrewsbury, this great location has plenty to see and do for all the family!

With three bedrooms at this Chirk cottage, there is plenty of room for all of the family, whilst for art lovers, there is a fascinating mural of “The Painting of Ladies” on the wall of the single bedroom, painted by Elsie Eldridge, wife of the famous poet RS Thomas. The large rear lawned garden at this Chirk cottage is ideal for dining alfresco after a day exploring the nearby scenic Ceiriog Valley or further afield in North Wales. Within 2 miles of this Chirk cottage, you can enjoy the National Trust’s 13th century Chirk Castle, the marvelous 70 foot high Chirk Aqueduct, an excellent golf course and a marina. Discover the delightful town of Llangollen which offers a good range of pubs and restaurants as well as many interesting shops, canal walks and exciting white water rafting. This is an ideal Chirk cottage from which you can enjoy lovely local attractions or travel further afield into Wales and Shropshire.
